• Lead a software engineering organization responsible for
designing and implementing enterprise-grade systems for results, interpretation and reporting (SOP automation, dry lab review, variant curation and case review systems). The team is composed mostly of bioinformaticians and a smaller number of engineers. Note that this is an engineering position focusing on production systems, so the viewpoint differs from the typical prototype-driven R&D activities. • Engage cross-functionally with other teams such as Product Management, R&D, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Lab Directors, software architects and senior leadership, aiming to improve processes and systems used for dry lab, tertiary analysis and reporting. Act as a scientific liaison between the senior engineering leadership and these clinical teams. • Create the technical vision and roadmap in collaboration with R&D for the automation and scalability of results, interpretation and reporting processes, supporting current and future test volumes for a portfolio of products (germline and somatic, cell- free DNA, MRD, among others). • Define, analyze and improve existing automated processes (especially SOPs), aiming to increase the quality and reduce TAT of tertiary processes, scaling for higher test volumes, larger panels and new products. • Analyze and improve existing user interface applications and propose solutions based on technical experience and bioinformatics knowledge. • Provide transparency and working progress on deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 10+ years of experience in genetics (may include PhD research
and/or postdoctoral fellowship). • 6+ years of experience with clinical genomics or bioinformatics, focusing on clinical sample processing, variant curation and interpretation, annotations and diagnostic report generation. • 4+ years of experience collaborating with Product Management teams, understanding scientific requirements and creating software solutions to fulfill requirements. • Excellent communication skills. • Experience working with an agile software development team using test-driven development and unit testing framework. • Knowledge in REST API design concepts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Understanding of software development life cycle, agile
methodologies, non-functional requirements and software testing methodologies. • Preferred: advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Molecular Biology, Genetics or Bioinformatics. • Experience with the technological aspects of genomics systems. • Knowledge of WDL pipelines, AWS Omics or other genomics platform providers. • Experience with public domain data sources, e.g. Clinvar, gnomAD. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Good communication skills in group chat and over the telephone. • Demonstrated teamwork skills with a solid analytical background.
