Colocasia esculenta

Colocasia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southeastern


Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Some species are widely cultivated and naturalized
in other tropical and subtropical regions.
Colocasia comprise a genus of tropical and subtropical flowering perennials. The Latin
name comes from "kolokasion", which was the Greek name for the edible roots of C.
esculenta. The sap of all species can be irritating to the skin, and all parts of the plant
can cause stomach issues if eaten raw.
