4.1 Introductory Activity (3
min.) The teacher will present to the class a quote :
“the human mind at birth is nothing but a blank state or tabula rasa”, by John Locke.
The teacher will let the students look back in their past experiences as a child to present:

1. List down 5 most important things you have that helps you become YOU.
2. The group has to assign a scribe, material logistic, facilitator and reporter.
3. After listing, the reporter shall present to the class and explain why they have chosen such
answer according to how they made life easier. The said template will be followed:

4.4 Abstraction (15 minutes). Concept Notes
Enculturation- is a process of being socialized into a specific culture. Individual learn cultural
symbols, norms, values and language by observing and interacting with family, friends and
the rest of society.
- The process by which people learn the requirements of their surrounding culture and
acquire the values and behaviors appropriate/necessary in that culture
(Integration- Values)
Socialization – refers to a lifelong process of social interaction through which people acquire their
identities and necessary survival skills in a society
- Enables the person to gradually become a self-aware and knowledgeable human being,
and learn the ways, values, rules and culture of his/her society
Identity Formation - Result of Socialization and Enculturation
- Starts when one learns to socialize and be aware of the culture, behaviors, language,
morals, and norms of where he or she belongs in.
Identity – is what makes a person distinct from others. It is the total knowledge and understanding
of an individual about who he or she is.
Types of Identity
1. Personal – the concept an individual develops about himself or herself
- The sense of oneself as a distinct or unique individual
- May depend on the age and circumstances of a person
2. Cultural -the identity of culture to which a person belongs in
- The feeling or sense of belongingness to a group
- A collective sense of companionship that involves the same beliefs, interests
and fundamental principles of living
Discipline- a way of behaving that expresses a willingness to obey rules or laws
- Behavior that is judged by how well a person follow a set of rules or orders
Types of Discipline
1. Discipline of Nature or Reality – a person meets this kind of control every time he or she
tries to do something. A person learns to do things on his or her own without the
supervision of others.
2. Discipline of Culture or Society – this discipline instills in every culture is distinct, different
and unique. A person learns according to what he sees in his society or his culture.
3. Discipline of Superior Force -this discipline is the opposite of the discipline of nature or
reality. In this training, a person learns through supervision and guidance.

Aspirations – is a strong desire and ambition with which someone is motivated to work hard
