What do you mean weeds? State its disadvantages. 1+1
21. OR

answer: Weeds are defined as unwanted plants growing along with cultivated
plants. disadvantages :
a. compete for water , nutrients, minerals and space
b. effects the growth of the cultivated plant
c. reduce the yield of crop and increases the cost of cultivation

OR

Green revolution is the process of improving the grain production like wheat and rice
etc in the country by cultivating high yielding varieties.
white revolution is the process of increasing the production of milk and also called as
operation flood

22. Establish the relationship between the speed of sound, its wavelength, and frequency. If the 1+1
velocity of sound in air is 340 m s–1, calculate
(i) wavelength when the frequency is 256 Hz.
(ii) frequency when the wavelength is 0.85 m
23. The earth is acted upon by the gravitation of the Sun, even though it does not fall into the Sun.
Why? OR

There are three solids made up of aluminum, steel and wood, of the same shape and same
volume. Which of them would have the highest inertia

The gravitational force is responsible for providing the necessary centripetal force. The
Earth is also moving tangentially and the Sun’s gravity pulls Earth towards itself, hence
changing the trajectory of the Earth. But due to tangential movement of the Earth in
Sun’s frame, the Earth does not fall into the Sun.

OR
As the mass is a measure of inertia, the ball of the same shape and size, having more
mass than other balls, will have the highest inertia. Here, as the volume is same so, the
mass ∝ density. Steel has more density than aluminium or wood, so steel has more mass
than aluminium or wood. Therefore, steel has highest inertia

24. The composition of the nuclei of two atomic species X and Y are given as under 1+1
X Y
Protons = 6 7
Neutrons = 8 7
Give the mass numbers of X and Y. What is the relation between the two species?
OR
Show diagrammatically the electron distributions in a sodium atom and a sodium ion and also
give their atomic number.

mass number = Sum (protons + neutrons)

for X:
mass number = 6 + 8 = 14
for Y:
mass number = 7+ 7 =14
the given two species are isobars, as they have same mass number but different atomic
numbers.

OR

sodium atom , atomic number 11 sodium ion, atomic number 11

difference is in the number of electrons, not in the number of protons, hence no change in the
atomic number

Q.No. Section - E M)
37. The Tyndall Effect is the phenomenon of the scattering of light by colloidal solutions and
suspensions. After beginning its 8-minute journey to reach the surface of our planet, sunlight
goes through many physical spaces that change it in certain aspects.

i. Why is the Tyndall effect observed when sunlight passes through a dense forest canopy? (2
marks)

ii) Why does the Tyndall effect not work on true solutions? (2

marks) OR

Why does the Sky appear clear blue?

i) Tyndall effect can be observed when sunlight passes through the canopy of a dense forest.
In the forest, mist contains tiny droplets of water, which act as particles of colloid dispersed
in air.

ii) It is based on the idea that light beams scatter due to the existence of large colloidal
particles in the solution that separate the light. However, in a true solution, the particles are not
large enough to scatter the light particles, which is why the Tyndall effect is not observed

. OR

The sky appears blue because violet, indigo, and blue colours interact with suspended particles
when white light flows through the atmosphere. These waves are absorbed, then diffused, and
our eyes receive them.
38. Read the following and answer the following: 1+1+1

Muscular tissue consists of elongated cells called muscle fibers. These cells are responsible for
movement in the body. Muscles contain a special protein called contractile protein, which
causes the contraction and relaxation of the muscle.

We can move some muscles by conscious will. Such muscles are called voluntary muscles.
These muscles are also called skeletal muscles as they are mostly attached to bones and help in
body movement. Under the microscope, these muscles show alternate light and dark bands or
striations, hence they are also called striated muscles. The cells of this tissue are long,
cylindrical, unbranched, and multinucleate.

The movement of food in the alimentary canal or the contraction and relaxation of blood
vessels are involuntary movements. We can’t control these muscle movements. The Smooth
muscles or involuntary muscles control such movements. They are also found in the iris of the
eye, in the ureters and in the bronchi of the lungs. The cells are long with pointed ends
(spindle-shaped) and uninucleate. They are also called unstriated muscles.

The muscles of the heart show rhythmic contraction and relaxation throughout life. These
involuntary muscles are called cardiac. Heart muscle cells are cylindrical, branched and
uninucleate.

a. muscles contraction controlled by our body.

b. write the characteristics of striated muscle.
c. write the characteristics of cardiac muscle
d. give examples of smooth muscles

a. Voluntary muscles

b. Striated muscles are long , cylindrical, unbranched and uninucleate

c. Cardiac muscles are cylindrical , branched and uninucleate

d.iris of eye, in ureters, bronchi of the lungs

39. One day Gopal decides to go to his office by car. He enjoys driving along with listening to old
songs. His car is moving along a straight road at a steady speed. At a particular moment, he
notices that the car travels 150 m in 5 seconds
i) Calculate the average speed of a
car. ii)How far does it travel in 1
second?
iii)calculate the total distance he traveled after 20s.
OR
iv)How long does it take to travel 240 m?

i) Average speed = total distance travelled/total time taken

= 150/5 = 30 m/s
ii)Time = 1 s
Distance = (average speed)(time) = 30 m/s x 1s
= 30 m
iii) distance travelled in 1s = 30m
distance travelled in 20s = 30m*20
= 600m

OR
iv) Distance = 240m
Time = Distance/average speed
= 240/30
= 8s
