BUS5PB S2 - 2023
Workshop 1: Setting up the analytics software

BUS5PB will be taught using four analytics packages: IBM Cognos Insight, SAP Lumira, Microsoft Excel
and Power BI.

Installation Instructions

The three packages will only run on a Microsoft Windows environment. Mac users will have to use a
separate Windows installation or BootCamp to install these packages.

Please follow the below links to download the relevant installer packages.

Please Note: For SAP Lumira you must right-click on the application (post download) and click on 'Run
as administrator'. This will resolve the port issue that is frequently encountered.

Please Note: Free trial is offered.

• Microsoft Office Suite is provided free to all LTU students – login at https://portal.office.com/
to install the entire suite (including Excel).
• Power BI is free to download and use without a license. You can download Power BI Desktop
from https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/

Remote Access Instructions

For Windows Users


Click on Start menu in your desktop and type ‘RDP’

To access the software remotely please use the credentials emailed to your inbox:

Computer: 52.255.40.233
Username: Your RDP Username (case sensitive)
Password: Your password (case sensitive)

When you click on connect, you will be prompted to enter password. Perform the following operations
to login to your RDP:

• Click on ‘More choices’ option (above OK button)


• And then click on ‘Use a different account’.
• Enter the username and password as mentioned above.

When connecting, students are advised to store the files on their own computer.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection allows you to map your drive to the VM so that you can treat
your local storage as a Hard Drive on the VM that you are running. For information on how to do that,
please refer to the link below.

For Mac Users


Mac Users cannot download either SAP Lumira or IBM Cognos on their laptops. The workaround for
this is the server provided in the worksheet. Following instructions will help you set up your Virtual
Machine and also map your local drives on the VM.

• Download Microsoft Remote Desktop 10. You can download the app from this link

• You will need to use the following credentials which emailed to your inbox:
o PC name: 52.255.40.233
o Username: Your RDP Username (case sensitive)
o Password: Your password (case sensitive)

• Click on ‘Add Desktop’ as shown in the image on the next page.

• Click on the newly connected PC now available in your ‘Saved Desktops’.


• You will be prompted to enter username and password; enter the credentials as mentioned
above.

• Click on ‘Done’ in the next screen.


• Click on the 'Edit' icon on your VM icon. That should open up a window as seen in the next
page.

• Click on the 'Folders' option.


• Click on 'Redirect Folders' and specify the local folder's path on your drive where you
will be storing all your work. Save your changes.

• Now, you can double click on the VM icon and enter the password
• Check your shared folder under the 'Computer' option.
