How can community engagement and participation be enhanced to promote resilience and
preparedness for disasters? What role can you play in fostering this engagement?
- By engagement and participation in the community everyone will have knowledge of what solution will
they apply when disaster strikes. We will be resilient to disasters because of preparedness and planning
for any possible thing that could happen. Conducting seminars, training, and meetings are some ways to
engage the community's preparedness for disasters. Disaster-related information is a public good to
which all citizens should have the best possible access. From an inclusion angle, this requires targeted
efforts to address a range of existing participation barriers among marginalized groups and the
promotion of platforms and mechanisms for engagement that are formally inclusive and accessible.
Bolstering social resilience within communities can result in meaningful, sustainable development. In
fostering this engagement, we need to spread awareness. These are ways to spread awareness; sharing
about the importance of engagement with the community, encouraging other students to participate,
making a poster and posting it online, and inviting friends to disaster preparedness content.
What lessons can be learned from past disasters here in the Philippines, and how can these lessons
- As I noticed in the past disasters in the Philippines, there are still a lot of Filipinos who are not
prepared, and it causes great damage to their lives. The Philippines was ranked 165th in the world by
GDP per capita as the poorest country. The government lacks support and income in establishing
infrastructure for the people in case of disaster. Also, the materials that supposedly be used in
emergency supplies, equipment, and tools for disaster preparedness. In future disaster risk reduction
and management, I hope that the government will give more attention to making the community
resilient to disaster, by implementing ways, of preparedness, and giving enough funds to get ready for
the disaster. At the end of the day, the traumas and loss of the victims will be bearable because of the
help of the authorities and assurance of a safe and disaster risk reduction community.
Assessment
From the list, identify the solution provided by your locality, especially by your local government
unit. Include some of their best environmental practices. Evaluate the efficiency and
effectiveness of the listed solution. Suggest some ways to improve on the less efficient and
- The five pressing environmental problems in my locality are proper waste disposal,
Deforestation, water pollution, landslides, and flooding. My locality's solution to waste disposal
is providing a trash bin or bag to segregate the classes of garbage, educating the community on
how to properly dispose of their garbage, putting signs in the streets to remind people about
their trash, and collecting the garbage to avoid it to be scattered anywhere. These are good
solutions, but I suggest our local government unit be stricter in waste disposal like paying a
certain amount if somebody continues to throw their garbage anywhere to make people more
serious because it involves their money. Next is Deforestation, as time passed by our locality
also improved and developed. Establishing commercial buildings, food franchises, and stores.
Cut-off trees are changed by different establishments, so deforestation is the effect. The
problem is water pollution. Our locality has a problem with water every time it rains. Due to the
days of rain, the water becomes dirty. The government's solution is putting chlorine in the water
to make it white which is not so effective and efficient. I hope they store enough water when
it's not raining so when the rain comes the community can use clean water. Landslide is also
one of the environmental problems in our locality because by constructing roads the soil is easy
to cause landslides and endanger vehicles. The local government working and putting some
barriers on the sides of the roads, so soil and rocks won't fall. The last environmental problem is
flooding. The local government sends help to the people by rescuing them. Planting more trees
to lessen the flooding. Collecting garbage clearing up the drainages and conducting activities
