In today’s program, we will be talking about self-employment.
Self-employment is the state of working for oneself rather than an
employer. Self-employed people generally find their work rather than
being provided with work by an employer and instead earn income
from a profession, trade, or business they operate.
Today, many determined young people in college or university consider
securing a job in organisations, companies, or government offices.
Coming out of college or university with that mindset isn’t a bad thing
at all. It sets you up on the road to making that dream a reality. But is
that what we can only do or wait to be doing?
Let us listen to our conversation with some young people who started
their self-employed businesses, hoping to develop them in the future.
Young people’s clips………………………………………….
Those were the voices of young people who had established their
businesses, sharing with us their stories.
Starting a business requires one to have starting capital. How is it
challenging for young people who want to begin self-employed
businesses?
Viola Alfred, a University of Juba College of Business Administration
student, spoke to us about how parents should support young people in
starting self-employed businesses.

Musical sting….
Starting your own business doesn't happen overnight and will require
months - sometimes years - of hard work and a thick skin. It's a slow
process.
Gabriel Wani reached out to Mama Angelina Michael, a mother who
has been running a small business for years designing beats for her
clients, to tell us about the importance of self-employment.

That was Mama Angelina Michael telling us the importance of self-

employment.
The benefits of being self-employed include being your own boss,
creating your schedule, having flexibility, working towards your
dreams, enjoying the challenges of starting something from scratch,
choosing the people you work with, and making your work
environment.
