The Gaudium School

First Term Report 2023-24

Prepared: December 1, 2023

Student Name: Aadhya Dronavalli Dronavalli

Year: MYP Year 1

Advisor: Dr.Nagaraju Pejjai

Dear Parents,

The IBMYP curriculum at The Gaudium school is designed to offer students creative problem solving and critical
thinking opportunities that will enable them to be lifelong learners. We believe, assessments are an integral part of
teaching and learning and should provide students with an enriching and meaningful learning experiences. The MYP
assessment requires teachers to assess the prescribed subject-group objectives using the assessment criteria for each
subject group in each year of the programme. The MYP teachers constantly work towards developing rigorous
assessment tasks by embracing a variety of assessment strategies that challenge student’s intellectual capability and
provide them with a platform to connect their learning with authentic real-world scenarios which allow them to develop
self-awareness and make informed choices about their learning.

Reporting is one of the essential components of teaching and learning and enables teachers to communicate the
students learning progress periodically with the students and parents. The Managebac report is just one of the many
ways we report student’s achievement and areas for improvement. This formal written report is prepared based on the
students’ performance on the ongoing assessments in all subject groups this term and will help our students to reflect
on their learning process. The purpose of this report is to provide feedback to students on their areas of strength and
targets for improvement through a home-school partnership. Using the information provided by the teachers, students,
and parents can together reflect on the students learning goals and engage in conversations about learning. These
reports are an opportunity to celebrate students’ successes and gain a clear understanding of areas for improvement
to plan future goals.

If you have any questions regarding the student’s report please contact the class mentor, subject teacher, or the MYP
Coordinator.

Comments:
Aadhya is a determined learner she has a lot of potential to excel in academics. At the beginning of the semester, her
work in criteria B, C, and D was not as per expectations, but I have seen a substantial improvement. However, her
submissions are often delayed and she has to be reminded of timely work. She communicates confidently during
classroom discussions, but she is a reluctant writer. Aadhya is suggested to focus on the feedback given to her FAs
and SAs related to the investigation task and source analysis task to avoid repeated errors. For improvement, she is
also encouraged to work on re-drafts of FA & SAs. She can also refer to articles from the daily newspaper, Britannica,
Ducksters, and History.com, newspaper, and to enhance her subject knowledge during vacation.

Assessment Explanation
HOW THE STUDENT AND THE WORK ARE ASSESSED

MYP teachers will address objectives through classroom teaching and learning process and assessment criteria
through the Formative and Summative assessment tasks. Formative assessment outcomes give guidance during a
learning process and summative give an evaluation at the end of it. Formative work is everything that helps a student
meet the established criteria for the summative task. Only summative assessment achievement levels count towards
the semester grade. However, formative assessment results may be considered when summative tasks are missing for
whatever reason as they provide evidence of student learning.

Teachers will analyze the achievement levels of students over the course of the marking period which represents their
summative performance for that period, paying attention to patterns in the data (such as an increasing level of
performance), consistency, and mitigating circumstances. (MYP: From Principles into Practice 91). In the MYP
curriculum, assessment criteria for Year 1, 3 & 5 are provided by IB and teachers will be aligning the above criteria to all
grade levels accordingly. MYP Assessment Criteria are discussed with students at the beginning of each unit ensuring
that the assessment is transparent. MYP teachers make decisions about students’ achievement using their
professional judgment and “best-fit” approach, guided by mandated criteria that are public, known in advance, and
precise.

The Summative Assessments are divided into the various MYP criteria based on the IB requirements. Each Subject
group will assess all four of the MYP Subject Criteria at least twice during the year (for the highest score achieved out
of 8), yielding a total score of 32 for the subject area. (Assessment Rubric specified in the Subject guides). Each
subject area will use the assessment rubric and descriptors specified in the IB subject guides. Not all criteria will
necessarily be used each marking period for every subject, but all criteria will be assessed at least twice by the end of
the year.

Each criterion has eight possible levels of achievement (0–8) which is divided into four bands that generally represent
as mentioned below. Each band has its own unique descriptor. Teachers will use the descriptors to make “best-fit”
judgments about students’ progress and achievement.

The “best-fit” approach reflects the criterion-related philosophy of MYP assessment which does not require students
to meet every strand of a criterion in order to be awarded a specific achievement level or progress to the next level.
MYP assessment relies on teachers’ professional judgment to develop and apply shared understandings of “what
good looks like” (Further Guidance for Developing MYP Assessed Curriculum).
