ABSTRACT
Introduction
According to World Health Organization
(2020), Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an
infectious disease caused by a newly discovered
coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-
19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory
illness and recover without requiring special
treatment. On 30 January 2020, the Philippine
Department of Health reported the first case of
COVID-19 in the country with a 38-year-old female
Chinese national. On 7 March, the first local
transmission of COVID-19 was confirmed. WHO is
working closely with the Department of Health in
responding to the COVID-19 outbreak. On March
12, President Duterte announced a partial lockdown
covering Metro Manila that began on March 15. In
addition, President Duterte advised local government
units outside of the National Capital Region to
implement a community quarantine in cases where,
in a given level of local government, at least two
COVID-19 cases are confirmed within a lower level
of its jurisdiction. One of the MSME’s that really
affected by the Covid-19 are Beauty Salons and
Barber Shops, because of the restrictions and
minimum health protocols such as social distancing
beauty salons and barber shops are not that fully
operational and with a lot of rules and guidelines that
given to them by the DTI those beauty salons and
barber shops are facing difficulties right now and
experiencing low income because of Covid-19. This
coronavirus changes the way the people works
especially those people who offer services like hair
cutting and beauty section. This is why we need to
know the real impact of this coronavirus to those
people and business on beauty and care sector for
them to reach out for help coming from the
government and what remedies or other things they
need to do to raise again their business in this new
normal.
Methodology
The researcher used a descriptive method of
research because it is the most appropriate and
convenient method to use. The sampling method use
was availability or convenience sampling. . This
study used survey questionnaires to gather data in
Barangay Bantug Bulalo Salon and Barber shop
owners that was needed in this study.

The researcher aimed to give some attention on the
impact of covid-19 to the salon and barber shop
owners of barangay Bantug Bulalo. The researcher
sought to answer the following questions: Part I –
The business and age profile of the respondents.1.1
How old the owner was? 1.2 What is the type of the
business? 1.3 How long did you manage this kind of
business? 1.4 What is the type of ownership of your
business? 1.5 How many employees did you have?
1.6 How much is your estimated monthly income
before the pandemic? 1.7 How much is your
estimated monthly income during the pandemic? Part
II – What is the impact of Covid-19 in the business
aspect such as services, finance and employees? Part
III – What are the problems encountered by the
owners during and after the pandemic? Part IV –
How the owners and their business adopt the new
normal?
Conclusion
The findings revealed that, the salon and
barber shop owners of barangay Bantug Bulalo
impacted negatively by covid-19, especially to the
business aspects such as the services that they can
offer becomes limited resulting to their finances to go
down and cannot sustain its daily operating cost. The
capacity of the customers that they can accommodate
and the lessening of operating hours that are the two
main problems encountered by the salon and barber
shop owners. Adopting the rules and guidelines or the
Memorandum Circular (MC) 20-38, Series of 2020
or the Guidelines provided by the government was
the only way for them to continue and operates their
businesses for them to earn income for their families.
Recommendations
The researcher recommends that, the salon
and barber shop owners of barangay Bantug Bulalo
should ask for help coming from its designated
barangay or municipality. Having another business is
the solution to this problems encountered by salon
and barber shop owners. The researchers
recommends that they have to keep up the good work
by adopting and obeying the Memorandum Circular
(MC) 20-38, Series of 2020 or the Guidelines
provided by the government for them to still operate
and continue their business despite of this new
normal
