Location: Kosiv is one of the most famous resorts in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

The city is located in the

valley of the river Rybnitsa, a tributary of the Prut, at the foot of the Ukrainian Carpathians.

History: The oldest historical mention of Kosiv dates back to 1424: the Grand Prince of Lithuania
Svydrygailo presented the village to his "faithful servant" Maxim Vlad Dragosynovych.

The settlement became a city in the second half of the XVI century in the Polish-Lithuanian era thanks to
the valuable deposits of salt.

According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, Kosiv received the status of a historic city in 2001,
In 2004 it also received the status of a resort town of the year.

Nearby sights: The nearest attractions of the town are such places as the Hutsul Wooden Church of St. Basil
the Great, the Museum of Art and Life of the Hutsul region. I can mention also the Kosiv's Hook - it's a
waterfall in the intersection of resistant rock Ribnitsa river, which is forming several beautiful cascades.

Architecture: One of the most outstanding historical monuments is the Town (Castle) Mountain. Here are
well preserved powerful defensive shafts (вали), which were surrounded the castle, on which stood the
walls with four towers. The buildings were made of stone and wood. The castle was inhabited by
magnates - the owners of the city. Now the most of the buildings are built in various styles, and the old
Austrian houses have been renovated in a modern way. So the town looks like autumn forest with its
colorful houses.

Things to see/do: If you visit Kosiv, you must come out to the observation deck of the mountain Ostra.
There you can relax both body and soul, enjoy the scenic views of the city and mountains from a height.

I also recommend visiting the Kosiv Souvenir Market. There you will find many little things that will remind
you of this cozy town.

Food and drink: There are many great restaurants in Kosіv. If you want to enjoy the variety of flavors of
Hutsul cuisine, welcome to the restaurant Vodogray. There is always a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff
and excellent quality food. Besides, around the town there are many places where you can eat delicious
pizza or drink coffee with friends.
