About NISM
In the budget speech of February 2005, the Honorable Union Finance Minister announced that Securities and Exchange
Board of India (SEBI) should establish an Institute to undertake securities markets education and research. In pursuance
of this mandate, SEBI established the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), in 2006, as a Public Trust under the
Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950.

NISM is an Institute of higher learning with the vision of capacity and capability building in the field of securities market
and disseminating knowledge through long term and short term programs via technology driven initiatives in hybrid
modes and through e-learning programs.
NISM has been carrying out a wide range of activities aimed at enhancing quality standards in the securities markets
and for increasing participation therein, addressing various stakeholders of securities markets.

NISM offers a bouquet of uniquely positioned programs, executive trainings, conferences, e-learning programs,
certifications and investor education activities as per the market needs. The primary focus in these programs is on 'skill
development' that prepares aspiring professionals with well-rounded and holistic understanding of the markets and
equips existing professionals with expertise in various functional domains like operations, treasury, compliance, etc.

NISM also collaborates/tie-ups with educational institutions, Market Infrastructure Institutions, market intermediaries,
regulators, issuers, market participants etc. for developing and delivering programs of various types to help
professionalize the market. NISM is currently in the process of enhancing the reach of its programs in order to cover a
larger audience and to touch every part of the country.

The Vision of NISM is to impart in-depth knowledge on the
financial sector, focusing on the securities markets, to a broad
spectrum of participants both academic and professional and to
build a robust pool of skilled manpower for the Market
Infrastructure Institutions, market intermediaries, financial
service providers, and other entities in the financial/securities
markets. Being a capacity building initiative of market regulator
SEBI, NISM is uniquely positioned to assimilate and disseminate
knowledge on financial markets and related subjects.

NISM, through its academic courses, corporate training program, certifications, workshops and industry interactions, has
been redefining financial education and awareness over the last 15 years. It has created a bouquet of tailor-made
academic programs to develop new age professionals to cater to the expanding needs and requirements of the markets.

The Post Graduate Program in Investments & Securities Markets (PGPISM) is one year academic program, built on strong
theoretical foundation, backed by real-world examples and practical application. Students also get to interact and
learn from business/ financial sector leaders. A unique facility being provided by NISM to its students is a trading lab with
live data from the exchanges.

This program is designed to provide a mix of conceptual understanding and exposure to theory, practices and policies
through the use of contemporary learner-centric pedagogies. The institute with its team of dedicated academic and
industry experts impart knowledge based on in-depth research, practice and constant interaction with the policymakers,
regulators and the industry.

PGPISM is a one-year residential program, where the students get exposure to varied subjects and verticals of
investments and securities markets including Economics, Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate Finance, Portfolio

4. FOURTH TERM –Industry projects
The Fourth term is Industry-project term that offers opportunities to the students of the program to
deep dive into live market environment and work on various projects and functions with associated
entities in the market.

Students will work under the mentorship of industry experts from MIIs, Banks, Securities Markets Firms,
and Regulators etc. on projects.

Learning environment and
Pedagogical Approach
The pedagogy of this program will be practice oriented with an objective of bringing real-life perspectives alongside
giving a robust conceptual foundation to the students. The curriculum is designed in consultation with the industry to
ensure that the curriculum is in-line with the current Industry practices and requirements.

The program will be delivered through learner-centric approach using various pedagogical tools including case
studies, hands on training on widely used data base and software's like Bloomberg. NISM, with its proximity to the
policy-makers and the industry, draws upon the cream of academia and industry providing cutting-edge inputs in
the securities markets domain.

Lectures and hands-on workshop sessions will be conducted by eminent faculty and industry leaders and experts.
Students will gain the inputs and industry insights from a team of academicians, market experts and policy makers.
There will also be regular interactions with practicing professionals.

The learning environment is further stimulated by industry interface, finance lab with modern technological
infrastructure, state-of-the-art campus, extensive library and other recreation facilities. Book reviews, films related
to Wall Street and experience sharing sessions with industry experts complement the learning process.

Industry Interface
The institute organizes visits to exchanges, depositories and various
market intermediaries providing exposure to industry paradigm.
NISM also invites a number of practitioners from the industry for
interaction with the participants to share their experiences. These
platforms provide opportunities to the participants to develop
keen insights to industry practices and nuances.

Finance Lab
The one-of-its-kind trading simulation lab with streaming
market data is a key highlight of the program. In addition students
will be learning various subjects using databases such as
Bloomberg, Prowess, etc. and application software such as
MATLAB, SAS, R, WinRATS, E-Views, etc.

Extensive Library
The institute boasts one of the biggest specialized libraries for
Finance, which holds a rich collection of over 10000 books on
securities markets, domestic and international magazines,
newspapers, journals, etc. Through Science-Direct, the library
provides access to all leading academic journals in Finance,
Economics, Business and Management.

NISM's campus at Patalganga spread over 70 acres of land on the scenic Mumbai-Pune Express-way has state-of-
the-art infrastructure that creates an ideal environment conducive for contemplative learning. The eco-friendly
campus is Wi-Fi enabled and features well equipped class-rooms, modern auditorium and a vast amphitheater. The
campus also has impressive residential blocks with separate hostel facilities for male and female participants.

Full-time Faculty

Dr. Rachana Baid


Professor, Dean (Academics)

Dr. Rachana Baid is Professor at National Institute of Securities Markets. She has been teaching, consulting, and training
in financial markets since 1996. She has been a visiting faculty with XLRI Jamshedpur, S.P. Jain Global School of
Management, Mumbai, Singapore and Dubai. Earlier she has taught courses at IIM-Indore, NMIMs Mumbai, and few
other management schools. She has worked with Indian Institute of Capital Markets (IICM) for 9 years from 2001 to
2010. At IICM she has conducted more than 200 workshops and training sessions for the professionals in the Indian
capital market as well as for the participants from other countries. She has conducted training sessions for the officers of
IAS, IRS, and CBI as well as fund managers and senior bankers from the private sector banks and mutual funds.

She has been associated with consultancy assignments for clients in the public sector & private sector. She was the
member of a team constituted by BankWorld Inc, Washington, DC as a local capital market expert to assess the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID) assistance to Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and
its future technical assistance needs. She has worked on assignments for the government of India in Investor
Education & Protection. She has been involved in consultancy/advisory assignments for UTI mutual fund and the
Association of Mutual Funds in India. She was part of the secretariat to assist the panel for National Award for
Excellence in Corporate Governance 2001.

She has done Ph.D. in finance (2001) and Masters in Commerce (1995) from Osmania University
She has about a dozen research papers to her credit in leading journals.

Dr. Latha Chari


Professor

Dr. Latha Chari is a Doctorate in Finance from BITS Pilani, Post Graduate in Commerce and a FCMA (Fellow Member of
the Institute for Cost Accountants of India). She has an experience of more than 18 years in teaching, research and
academic administration and about 9 years in the Industry. She started her academic career as a Fellow with IILM,
Lodhi Road, New Delhi. At NISM, Dr. Chari has contributed towards the establishment of Algo and Trading Analytics
Lab, where courses related to trading and investment are taught using the delayed asset prices of equity and
derivatives received from exchanges. She has developed comprehensive curriculum that enables participants to
enhance their investment skills, understand and navigate through highly volatile markets using different trading and
investment strategies. She is teaching courses on financial accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate
finance, Equity research and Valuation, in addition to lab-based investment management curriculum, across various
full time, part time and training programs. She has been member of the Board of Studies of various Management
Institutions and is currently a member of the Research Advisory Committee of SEBI.

Before joining NISM in 2014, Dr. Chari has worked with the Institute for Technology and Management, Navi Mumbai
for more than a decade. During her academic tenure she has published papers in various national and international
journals. She has also worked on research projects for SEBI and research funded by NSE-NYU under their joint
research initiative.

She has conducted several MDPs in the areas of financial asset valuation, strategic cost management, fundamental
analysis, trading and investment in equities for a wide range of participants comprising of capital market
professionals, regulators from both India and abroad.

Dr. Chari's areas of research interests include strategic cost management, corporate valuations, shareholder value
enhancement, market microstructure and Studies assessing the impact of policy decisions on investors, market
quality and market integrity.

Dr. Kirti Arekar


Professor

Dr. Kirti Arekar is currently working with National Institute of Securities Markets as a Professor. She has been in
teaching, research, training and consulting in Data and Statistical Analysis since 2000. Dr. Kirti worked with K.J.
Somaiya Institute of Management, Welingkar Institute of Management (WeSchool) and Narsee Monjee Institute of
Management Mumbai. She has been visiting faculty with SP Jain Global Institute of Management, Singapore and
Manipal University, Dubai. She has conducted several training programs for corporates like BSE, NSE, BCCI, INS
HAMLA, Lumiere, Mahindra & Mahindra and L&T etc. based on Decision Making, Statistics and Data Analysis etc. by
using several Software's i.e. SPSS, EXCEL, EXCEL Solver, MegaStat, Minitab, SAS, R, Python, SAS and QM3+ etc. She
has 275 Research publications in International and National Journals. She has presented several Research Papers in
many Universities like Harvard University, Manchester, University of Emirates, University of Wellington and Hull
University etc.

She has done PhD. in Statistics in 2002 and Integrated Program in Business Analytics from IIM Indore. She has received an
award for Best Research paper at Inter 3RD International conference on global independence and decision science,
Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, 2008; Best paper awarded by Global Economy and Finance Journal,
Canada, 2013 & University of Boston, USA in 2012. Under her guidance two students was awarded Ph.D. degree.

She was awarded as the Best Teacher Award for Excellence in Research & Teaching from Higher Education Forum in
2013; has been also awarded Fellowship from World Business Institute, Melbourne, Australia in 2013 and Best
Researcher Award in Higher Education from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai and Best Faculty Award
in Teaching in Excellence from Bombay Management Association, BMA in 2019.

Dr. Jinesh Panchali


Professor

Dr. Jinesh has more than 30 years of experience in academics, consulting, and academic administration. Jinesh is
MBA with specialisation in Finance, Ph.D. in Management from Faculty of Management Studies (1994), The M.S.
University of Baroda, and a CMA from Institute of Cost Accountants of India. Before joining NISM, he managed an
Advisory firm, Arham Advisors (2016-2021). It has undertaken assignments in domain of M&A, corporate valuation,
Management Information Systems, etc.

He has served Indian Institute of Capital Markets, (IICM) (now merged with National Institute of Securities Markets
(NISM), for more than a decade including serving as Dean (1995-2007). He has also served as Senior Vice President
at Financial Technologies Group, and as Head of its Knowledge Management subsidiary (2007-2014).

He has published in area of corporate governance, ownership and performance, and M&As. He has taught full courses
in area of Finance and Strategy, like, M&A, corporate finance, corporate valuation, and corporate restructuring at
various IIMs and institutions of national repute.

He has worked on assignments with various Ministries of Government of India and its committees. He has conducted
executive education programmes and consultancy assignments for domestic and global capital market regulators, in
area of governance, valuation, venture capital, securities markets, and knowledge management frameworks.

Dr. Dhiraj Jain


Professor

Dr. Dhiraj Jain is a Ph. D in Management and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India. He has a corporate experience
of 10 years and an academic experience spanning nearly two decades. His areas of interest include Quantitative
Techniques, Business Statistics, Investment & Portfolio Management, Mutual Funds & Financial Derivatives. He has
been a corporate trainer for Equity markets and Mutual Funds for various Financial Institutions, Mutual Funds and
Broking Houses and others. He has taken various sessions on Statistics, Research Methodology, Security Analysis
and Portfolio Management and Financial Derivatives for management professionals at Wipro, Infosys, Tata Motors,
Citius Tech and the like. He is an avid researcher and has a number of research papers, case studies and publications
to his credit. His book Marketing Techniques for Financial Inclusion and Development is also indexed in the Scopus
database. He has presented papers in various National and International conferences and had also received the best
paper award in many of them. He has been a Ph. D guide for the past 8 years. 5 students have completed their Ph. D
under his guidance.

Dr. Venkatacham Shunmugam


Adjunct Professor

Dr. Venkatachalam Shunmugam has completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Agricultural Economics from Indian
Agricultural Research Institute – New Delhi in 1997

He carries with him an experience of around 22 years and was last associated with Multi Commodity Exchange of
India Pvt. Ltd as Head – Research & Index Administration. He had association with various financial organizations like
Nomura Research Institute, Fintech India Pvt. Ltd, MSEI Pvt. Ltd, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Dr. Rajesh Kumar


Professor

Dr. Rajesh Kumar is a skilled and qualified teacher of law with more than twenty-two years of experience in the field
of law. After completing his LL.B. Degree from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 2001, he enrolled as an
advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi and practiced mainly in Civil, Writ, Commercial, and Criminal matters before the
High Court of Delhi and District courts of Delhi.

Subsequently, he completed his LL.M. from the University of Delhi, cleared the U.G.C. NET Examination, and started
his teaching career in 2005. He taught corporate and investment laws at various law colleges and universities starting
from IMS Unison Law School, Dehradun and ICFAI Law School, Dehradun, VIPS (affiliated with G.G.S.I.P. University,
Delhi), Amity Law School, Delhi (affiliated with G.G.S.I.P. University, Delhi) and National Law University, Ranchi.
Before joining this institute as an Associate Professor in February 2018, he was working as Assistant Dean of NLU,
Ranchi. He was promoted to Professor in October 2023.

During his teaching career of more than 18 years, he held various administrative responsibilities including the
positions of Chief Proctor, Controller of Examination, and Assistant Registrar. He completed his Ph.D. in securities law
in the year 2012 from the University of Delhi.

He has written many articles and four books on different subjects, including his books on securities law (ISBN No-
978365983044, Satyam Law International, Delhi, 2015) and Competition Law (ISBN NO -9789382823520, Satyam
Law International, Delhi, 2017). His areas of expertise include Corporate Law, Securities Law, Corporate Finance,
Competition Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, Banking and Insurance, and International Investment Law. He has also
participated in various conferences and seminars organized by various institutions and has also been a speaker in
many such conferences and seminars.

Dr. Kapil Shrimal


Associate Professor

Dr. Kapil Shrimal is Associate Professor at National Institute of Securities Markets; he is having more than 13 years of
experience of academics and 1-year experience of corporate. He has started his career with ICICI Prudential LIC and
worked with Institutes like Prestige Institute of Management and Research, Indore, Symbiosis University of Applied
Science Indore, Marwadi University Rajkot, etc. His last assignment was with PIMR, Indore.

His main area of teaching and research is Financial Planning, Portfolio Management, Derivatives, Financial Modelling,
Financial Management, etc. He has conducted many Investment Awareness Program (IAP's) on behalf of SEBI, NSE
and ICAI India.

Dr. Shrimal has received Best Faculty award by Dainik Bhaskar in the year 2012. He has also received Best PhD Thesis
award by Jaipuria Institute on Management Indore in the year 2018. He has presented and published research papers
in International and National reputes and published one book. Some of his research papers got Best Research Paper
awards in International Conferences.

He is into the editorial board and reviewer member of International Journal of Accounting and Financial Management
Research. He is also associated with various Universities as a member of Board of Studies, Academic Council and PhD
examiner. Dr. Shrimal has done his PhD in Management (Finance) form Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. He
has also cleared UGC-NET and RPSC-SET in Management in the year 2012. Has done his MBA (Finance) and BBA from
Devi Ahiliya University, Indore He has cleared many NISM certificates, NCFM modules and other certificate courses.

Dr. Jatin Trivedi


Associate Professor

Dr Jatin Trivedi is an Associate Professor at National Institute of Securities Markets. Before joining back NISM, he has
worked as Nodal Officer for Queen Marry University of London, UK, and also Nodal Officer for Presidio Graduate School
(Seattle and San Francisco – United States Campuses) as its program with Amity University. He has earned “Finance
Guru” title and several awards for excellence in teaching the core courses for MBA graduates. MBA Finance and
Global MBA programs during his teaching career for over two decades.

He holds Bachelor of Commerce in accounting & auditing, Bachelor of Education in Commerce (Position holder -
specialization), Master of Commerce in accounting and financial management (Position holder - specialization),
Master of Business Administrations in finance, G.I.T.W with Industrial Mathematics (First class first), DCA (First class
first), Bachelor of Education in Commerce (Position holder in specialization) and Ph.D in Finance.

His research area includes Capital markets, International Relations, Corporate Finance, Financial Economics, and
International Finance. He has been part of editorial board and invited reviewers in many reputed journals such as
Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment, Journal of Perspective Financing and Regional Development,

many national and international conferences which also includes several prestigious European and American

He holds membership with Indian Accounting Association, Finance & Accounting Professionals London, Charted
Financial Analysts Network, New York, USA, etc. At NISM, he teaches in the areas of Accounting, Finance and Banking
to full time post-graduate students in Securities Markets (PGDM – SM) and PGCSM.

Mr. Yogesh Dudi


Deputy General Manager & Member of Faculty NISM

Mr. Yogesh Dudi is a Deputy General Manager with SEBI, presently on deputation to NISM (since May 2023) as
member of faculty at NISM. Mr. Dudi brings with him a rich and varied experience of 17 years, primarily in the fields of
securities markets. He joined SEBI in 2006 and has since worked in various departments there like Investment
Management Department, Enforcement Department and also worked at Northern Regional Office of SEBI at New
Delhi.

Mr. Dudi is a post graduate in Economics from Department of Economics, University of Rajasthan. His areas of interest
include Fund Management and Enforcement.

Mr. Shilesh Pingale


Member of faculty

Mr. Shailesh Pingale joined NISM in December 2021 on deputation from SEBI; currently Mr. Shailesh is heading the
Academic Compliance Cell at NISM. Academic Compliance Cell is responsible for setting and advancing the academic
activities pertaining to all long-term academic programs offered by the institute. He also looks after the compliance of
AICTE and UGC at NISM. Further, he has been entrusted with the role of program director for various corporate training
programs conducted by the institute. He has successfully conducted various training programs for the participants
from SEBI, RBI, CEIB etc.

He has more than 14 years of expertise in the area of securities markets. He was associated with Securities and
Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since 2008. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in the year 2007, he has
joined SEBI. At SEBI, he worked in various departments such as Investigation Department, Derivatives and New
Product Department, Integrated Surveillance Department etc. He has vast experience in the area of frauds
investigation, derivatives, taxation etc. He has also worked with the SEBI-RBI standing technical committee, which
was instrumental in establishing currency derivatives trading in India. In addition to the above, he was also involved in
delivering lectures on financial literacy for college students in various parts of western region.

As a member of faculty, he is taking sessions on various topics such as Fraud Investigation, Derivatives, SEBI
Compliance, Financial Statement Analysis etc. Mr. Shailesh is a commerce graduate and Company Secretary (ICSI).
He is also associate member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also an avid sports lover and
passionate about reading market related articles.

Dr. Mohd Meraj Inamdar
Assistant Professor

Dr. Inamdar is a faculty member at NISM. Prior to NISM, he worked for Indian Institute of Capital Markets, Institute of
Cost Accountants of India chapter's and IIT-Bombay CSE. He has 11 years of experience in teaching & research and
two years of corporate experience. Dr. Inamdar has several publications in indexed journals and has won two best
research paper awards in international conferences. He has conducted a various programs for international delegates
as well as training programs for SEBI, RBI, IRS, IES officers and market intermediaries.

At NISM, Dr. Inamdar teaches ESG finance, quantitative methods and data analyses, derivatives options trading
strategies (through algo trading simulator) and technical analysis. He is a member of the organizing committee of
NISM conferences. He has completed M.com, MBA (Finance), CWA (Final), and PhD in the eld of ESG finance from
Mumbai University.

Dr. Shreyas Vyas


Assistant Professor

Dr. Shreyas Vyas is an expert in business laws with a background in civil laws. He has completed his BALLB (Hons)
from Nirma University. Then he completed his LLM in (Corporate Law) from Hidayatullah National Law University and
subsequently his Ph.D. from Bhagwant University in area of Company Law. He also enrolled himself as an Advocate in
Rajasthan State Bar Council and appeared before Hon'ble Rajasthan High Court for various cases.

In his span of more than 6 years he has taught various subjects like Company Law, Capital market Regulations,
Arbitration Law, Civil Procedure Code, Drafting, Pleading etc in universities such as Hidayatullah National Law
University and G D Goenka University etc. During his tenure, he has also been working in various administrative
positions like Faculty Advisor for Moot Court Committee, internship placements, Program chair etc.

His written articles in various areas of Law like Company Law, Intellectual Property Laws, Contract Laws, Technology
Laws, Human Rights Laws etc are published in various journals of National and International Repute. He has also
participated in various Faculty Development Programs, Conferences organized various institutions and coached
students & judged various Moot Court Competitions of National and International Repute in various areas of Laws. His
areas of teaching interests & research area includes subjects and area relating to Corporate Law, Securities market,
Merger and Acquisition Law, Arbitration law, Technology laws and their inter-disciplinary implementation in various
area of policy and Law.

Mr. Suneel Sarswat


Adjunct Faculty

Suneel Sarswat is an adjunct faculty at NISM. His current research area is applications of theoretical computer
science in finance and regulations. He teaches advanced programming, machine learning, deep learning, computational
finance, etc. He has more than 14 years of teaching experience. Before joining academics, he has worked for Bank of
America as a research analyst for more than two years. He has conducted various workshops for working professionals in
the area of compuatational finance and machine learning. He has trained officers from RBI, SEBI, Exchanges, Banks,
and other financial institutions. He has presented his work in international conferences in theoretical computer
science. Besides adjunct faculty at NISM, he is also a part-time consultant at Decimal Point Analytics.

He has completed his master's degree in applied statistics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in 2005.
He also holds a master's degree from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai in theoretical computer
science. Currently, he is completing his Ph.D. from TIFR in the area of applications of logic.

• Post Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University.
OR
• Graduate in any discipline with minimum 55% marks from a recognized university in India.

Selection Criteria
Selection to the Program will be through screening of applications based on Academic records including professional
experience/ qualification, extra curriculum activities and prior experience. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an
online interview. Candidates qualified in the online interviews will be offered admission.

application process by paying application fee. After making the payment of application fee of Rs. 500/- the
candidates may submit their application.

Fee Refund Policy


If any applicant requests to withdraw his/her admission, the Institute will refund the collected fees after deducting Rs.
10,000/- towards processing fees, provided such withdrawal request is made before the commencement of the
program. The last date for withdrawal of admissions for the purpose of refund of fees is before the commencement
date of the program. There will be no refund of fee, after the commencement of the program.
