C. Reason

(1) Problem

Blockage of the drains tank ejector pump inlet filter can occur, leading
to overboard fuel leakage. Operators have therefore requested to remove

Printed in Great Britain

the inlet filter from the drains tank ejector pump after the initial
requirements have been completed.

(2) Evidence

The inlet filter is initially required to prevent rejections of the drains

tank ejector pump due to blockage caused by fuel borne debris from new
aircraft fuel tanks. However, service experience has shown that the inlet
filter, after its initial requirement is completed, can be blocked by fuel
contamination that is small enough to pass through the drains tank ejector
pump without causing a blockage of the drains tank ejector pump.

(3) Substantiation

The changes introduced by this Service Bulletin have been the subject of
satisfactory engineering analysis and previous in-service experience. This
Service Bulletin complies with the applicable engine certification basis.

(4) Objective

Incorporation of the changes introduced by this Service Bulletin is

designed to maintain unit reliability.

(5) Effect of Bulletin on:

(b) Maintenance

D. Description

This Service Bulletin introduces the option for the Operators to remove the
engine drains tank ejector pump inlet filter after the initial requirement of
the inlet filter has been completed. Service experience on other engines has
shown that the drains tank ejector pump reliability has improved when the inlet
filter has been removed after the specified initial running-in time.

On Tay 611-8C engines the inlet filter should be kept installed for a minimum
of 200 flight hours since new if the engine is installed on a new aircraft.

NOTE: The Accomplishment Instruction of this Service Bulletin is divided into

two parts as follows:

PART 1 - Applicable for engines 'In Service'.

PART 2 - Applicable for engines 'At Overhaul/Shop Visit'.

E. Compliance

This Service Bulletin is optional and incorporation is subject to Customer

choice.

Design Organisation Approval No. EASA.21J.065.

3. Accomplishment Instruction

PART 1 - APPLICABLE FOR ENGINES 'IN SERVICE'

A. General

Printed in Great Britain

R NOTE: On Tay 611-8C engines the inlet filter should be kept installed for a
R minimum of 200 flight hours since new if the engine is installed on a
R new aircraft.

NOTE: In order to reduce the potential for multiple-engine in-flight shutdown,

power loss, or other anomaly due to maintenance error, Rolls-Royce
Deutschland recommends that Operators avoid performing maintenance on
multiple engines installed on the same aircraft at the same time. If it
is not possible to avoid maintenance on more than one engine at the same
time, Rolls-Royce Deutschland recommends that additional controls are
applied in order to ensure that maintenance tasks have been completed as
defined.

WARNING: YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU WORK ON THE ENGINE COMPONENTS AFTER THE
ENGINE IS STOPPED. THE ENGINE COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ALMOST ONE
HOUR.

WARNING: YOU MUST NOT TOUCH HOT PARTS WITHOUT APPLICABLE GLOVES. HOT PARTS CAN
CAUSE AN INJURY. IF YOU GET AN INJURY PUT IT IN COLD WATER FOR 10
MINUTES AND GET MEDICAL AID.

ENGINE - FUEL AND CONTROL - DRAINS TANK EJECTOR PUMP

REMOVAL OF THE INLET FILTER

MOD NO CP 8114 (RR MOD TAY-73-1453).

1. Planning Information

A. Effectivity

Drains Tank Ejector Pump Type - EJP 101.

B. Reason

(1) Problem and Evidence

The inlet filter is initially required to prevent ejector pump rejections due to blockage by fuel
borne debris from new aircraft tanks. However, service experience has shown that the filter
after its initial requirement is completed, can be blocked by contaminants of a size small
enough to pass through the ejector pump without causing damage.

Operators have therefore requested for the filter to be removed from the unit after the initial
requirements have been satisfied.

(2) Substantiation

The changes introduced by this modification have been the subject of satisfactory engineering
analysis and previous in service experience with Gulfstream and Fokker airframes.

(3) Objective

Incorporation of this modification is designed to maintain unit reliability.

C. Description

This modification covers the permanent removal of the inlet filter Part No 77139107 from the Engine
Drains Tank Ejector Pump after the initial requirements have been satisfied I.A.W the Aircraft
Maintenance Manual.

This modification will only be accomplished in service.

NOTE: This modification does not apply to new OE units delivered by Goodrich which will
include the filter to reduce the potential risk of blockage from initial in-built debris.
