INTRODUCTION
The agricultural sector has witnessed a significant transformation propelled by advancements in
technology and the increasing demand for efficient and sustainable farming practices (Liang and
Shah, 2023). One such innovation is the Farm Product Management System (FPMS).
The proposed project is to design a web-based Farm Product Management System (FPMS), a
solution to assist farmers in managing their resources more efficiently. The system will offer a
range of features aimed at streamlining day-to-day tasks and enabling farmers to make informed
decisions. Key features of the FPMS will include crop tracking, livestock record-keeping and
breeding information (Rhoads, 2023).
The farm-based management system would significantly benefit Nigeria by enhancing
agricultural productivity through precision agriculture (Abdulwaheed 2019). Currently, Nigerian
farmers use manual methods for farm activities like inventory management, which is inefficient,
but this system not only increases crop yields but aligns with the country’s goals of increasing
food production.

STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM

Most of the current methods of managing farm products rely heavily on manual record-keeping
practices, characterized by their tedious nature and susceptibility to errors. Farmers also often
encounter delays in decision-making processes and face challenges in optimizing resource
allocation efficiently (Cheema and Khan, 2019; Liang and Shah, 2023). This inefficiency not
only hampers operational productivity but also poses significant barriers to maximizing crop
yields and livestock productivity. Therefore, this research seeks to develop a web-based Farm
Product Management System (FPMS) that provides farmers with intuitive tools for real-time data
tracking, streamlined record-keeping, and informed decision-making.

RESEARCH AIM AND OBJECTIVES

This research’s aim is to design and implement a web-based farm product management system.
The specific objectives are to:
i. Create the Entity Relationship Diagram
ii. Design the website with HTML, CSS & Javascript
iii. Implement backend functionalities with PHP
Some of the features that would be on the farm product management system are staff
management, inventory management, crop management, and accounting.

JUSTIFICATION
The Farm Product Management System (FPMS) addresses critical farm resource management
needs by offering crop growth tracking tools, enabling farmers to conserve resources and
increase yields Nayak et al. (2020). It also supports accurate record-keeping for animal health
and breeding, enhancing accountability and productivity Liang and Shah (2023). This project
not only enhances my technical skills but also deepens my understanding of the agricultural
industry, positioning me as a developer capable of creating impactful solutions that address real-
world challenges.

METHODOLOGY
In this study, qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis will be used in
a mixed method approach. I chose agile methodology for the development of the system because
of its flexibility and it prioritizes user satisfaction. It also accommodates changing requirements
and reduces risk.
Here are the key resources that would be employed in the development of the system:
a. Front-end Development: HTML, CSS & Javascript would be used for the website design
b. Web Frameworks: Bootstrap for styling would make designing the system faster.
c. Back-end Development: PHP is efficient and would be used.
d. Database Management: MySQL database would be used

TARGET USERS AND EXPECTED RESPONSE

Here are the potential target users and the expected outcomes
1. Farm owners: I expect that the system will help them manage their farm operations more
efficiently and increase efficiency.
2. Agricultural sector: Since there is increased productivity because of the system, the prices
of agricultural yields should reduce.
LITERATURE REVIEW
In their study, Cheema and Khan, 2019 employed IoT to address the challenges in agriculture
sustainability to enable the agricultural industry to meet the increasing demand for food
production while overcoming indigenous agricultural problems in developing nations. They
utilized geospatial data, real-time satellite and UAV data, and in-site smart sensors, alongside
weather and soil data, to offer a comprehensive understanding of crop-soil-weather interactions.
The project emphasizes that the future of farming lies in cloud-based big data analytics, data-
sharing apps, and integrated platforms, catering to the needs of both modern and developing
agricultural sectors.
Similarly, Mohamed et al. (2021) explore innovative solutions in smart farming (SF) from 2019
to 2021, leveraging advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and mobile internet to address global
challenges of food shortage and population growth. It details the process of data gathering,
transmission, storage, and analysis, focusing on IoT's pivotal role in connecting sensor devices
for tasks such as smart irrigation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of 5G networks for high-
speed data transfer and device connectivity. Overall, smart agriculture in developing nations
requires governmental and private sector support to realize its full potential in addressing
sustainability concerns.
However, Rhoads (2023) explores how IoT and AI technologies can create a holistic system for
crop management, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, automation, precision
irrigation, yield optimization, and supply chain integration. This study emphasizes ongoing
research, development, and policy-making to fully harness AI and IoT in revolutionizing
agriculture.

Chapter Organization
The research paper would be organized into the following chapters:
1. Introduction: This chapter will provide an overview of the Farm Product Management
System's challenges, goals, objectives, methodology, and web technologies.
2. Literature Review: This provides a comprehensive literature review on farm product
management, performance and the systems designed to improve the overall process on
the farm.
3. Methodology: This chapter will describe how the data for the research was collected and
analyzed
4. Results: This chapter will present the findings of the research, including the impact of the
farm product management system on productivity, resource allocation and decision-
making processes.
5. Discussion Conclusion & Recommendation: This chapter will discuss the implications of
the research, draw conclusions and provide recommendations for future research and
implementation

CONCLUSION
The proposed research presents a timely and innovative solution to address the challenges faced
by farmers in managing crops, livestock, and resources. The research holds promise for
improving farm management practices, offering a centralized platform with intuitive interfaces
tailored to meet the diverse needs of farmers. The FPMS has the potential to significantly impact
the agricultural sector, contributing to increased efficiency, productivity, and profitability for
farming enterprises.
