Following are a few ideas that we have gathered after some research:

1. Groups

Forming groups of students and assigning 1-2 members of the team for the following purposes:

a) Campus tour *

b) Interactive session* among the students via games


*Purpose*: Students will get to know their class/batch mates, minor confusions can be addressed and
solved among the batch mates themselves, and it will be an icebreaker for introverts.

c) Information* regarding myUmt App and how to access/operate it via QR code on the ID card. The App
includes all the relevant information such as, username, password, timetable, etc. This way every
student will have access to all the information on one single medium.

For the sake of interaction and ice breaking, the following games may be suitable:

1) Spin the bottle

With a box full of chits with questions on it like

Was umt your first choice?

Why umt?

What is your department?

What are your interests / skills


All these questions can serve as means of us getting to know the students better so we can direct them
to joining the clubs and societies

The purpose of myUmt is digitalization all the relevant information that a student may need. All this will
be in the app, we just have to walk them through it that too will be efficiently done if in groups

2. Batch photo

Location: UMT Greens

Students will sit/stand in a way as to form the relevant year of their batch eg. 2022

A timelapse and photographs may be shot from the top of SOE building or via drone.

Purpose: A memorable event for both the students and the record of Umt.
These approaches are being followed by plenty of other universities including LUMS and NUST.

3. Moral Play

A moral play to address social issues (bullying) and to remain class decorum.

4. My UMT Application/portal/lms

We can put all the necessary information a student requires in my umt app i.e the map, timetables. We
can guide them about the usage of the application. We can educate the new participants regarding the
use of the student portal and lms. How to use it.

5: Information Desks.
There should be information desks on the orientation day and the members of the team should be
assigned to the duty. All the new participants can approach them and inquire in case they’re confused
about something.

6: Society Stalls.

The society stalls should be there on the site on the day of orientation and we should make them
interactive with the help of some activities i.e the sports society could arrange a little game of table
tennis or badminton in the court and invite the new participants there or the dramatic society could
perform a play which would encourage the new participants to join the society. We can use the
symphony club to perform a little gig.

7: Batch Advisor

We can guide the new participants about their batch advisors during the interactive sessions, how they
can address their problems to them and where they can find them also we could guide them about the
rules and regulations of the Institute.
