How many ways to write CS are there in Acedemic Writing? What are they?
Well done. Thank you for your answer, you have prepared the lesson very well. So I think you can
answer this question. How many purpose are there for the paragraphs and what are they?
8, Argue, Compare, Demonstrate, Explain causes or effects, Explain the reason, Provide the steps in a process,
Narrate, Describe.
As you know, there are many different types of paragraphs and depending on each paragraph we
have different uses that create its characteristics. Today we will learn about one of them, a passage
that helps readers think of clear images of things – Descriptive Paragraph. it also has three parts
like other paragraphs.

To help you better understand the purpose of the three parts, we will go through examples to help review
knowledge. I have two paragraphs. In each paragraph, I will show you the answers for each parts.
B. ANALYZING PARAGRAPH 1:
Title: The Long Life of My Grandfather’s Car (It is in the middle of the paragraph)
Topic sentence is the first sentence in paragraph: I own a car that has special meaning for me because it belonged
to my grandfather.
Concluding sentence is the end sentence in paragraph that: Someday I will use it to travel to all the states and
cities that my grandfather visited when he was a young man.
- Topic: It???????
- Strategy: Restate (The car is very important because it belong to his grandfather)
- Signal: Because It restate sentences in the topic is The car belong to his grandfather

C. ANALYZING PARAGRAPH 2
Title: An Abacus
-Topic: Abacus
Concluding sentence: With an abacus, my children touch the beads and can see why the answer is correct.
-Topic: an abacus
-Strategy: Restate
Supporting ideas:
+ helps readers know the structures of the abacus and how to use the abacus.
