Skills Simulator Initial Configuration


This addendum to the da Vinci Xi® Skills Simulator User Manual provides details specific to the
initial configuration of the da Vinci Xi Skills Simulator. The da Vinci Xi Skills Simulator is
designed to be used with the da Vinci Xi Surgical System and the da Vinci® X™ Surgical System.
Note: Run the initial configuration of the da Vinci Xi Skills Simulator only once.

General Precautions, Warnings, and Contraindications


The da Vinci Xi Skills Simulator must be used by personnel who have been trained in its use by
an authorized Intuitive Surgical, Inc. representative. Read all instructions carefully, including
the instructions in the da Vinci Xi Skills Simulator User Manual, the da Vinci Xi Surgical System
User Manual, and the da Vinci X Surgical System User Manual.

Skills Simulator Configuration
The system configuration will automatically run upon initial startup after the Skills Simulator is
connected to the Surgeon Console.

Connect the Skills Simulator to the Surgeon Console

1. Mount the Skills Simulator to the Surgeon Console as instructed in the da Vinci Xi Skills
Simulator User Manual.
2. Ensure the Mains breaker (power switch) is set to the OFF position on both the Skills
Simulator and the Surgeon Console.
3. Connect the short fiber cable to the Surgeon Console (Figure 1) and the other end to one
of the two receptacles (Figure 2) on the Skills Simulator as instructed in the da Vinci Xi
Skills Simulator User Manual.
4. Connect the AC power cord on the Skills Simulator to an AC power outlet. Ensure the
Surgeon Console is connected to an AC power outlet.

Power on the Skills Simulator and the Surgeon Console

3D viewer on the Surgeon Console Displays the initial configuration screen

1. Ensure the short fiber cable is connected to the Surgeon Console and one of the two
receptacles on the Skills Simulator.
2. Set the Mains breaker (power switch) to the ON position on the Skills Simulator and the
Surgeon Console. If the fiber cable is connected between the Surgeon Console and the
Skills Simulator when the Mains breaker (power switch) is set to the ON position, both the
Surgeon Console and Skills Simulator will power on automatically.
3. The Skills Simulator automatically starts in configuration mode. The Power button, the
STATUS LED, and the fiber cable LEDs flash blue while in configuration mode.
4. The 3D viewer on the Surgeon Console Viewer displays the Initial Configuration screen
after approximately one minute.
5. The Power button, the STATUS LED, and the fiber cable LEDs continue to flash blue during
configuration. The 3D viewer displays progress on the Configuration screen (Figure 3).

6. Initial configuration may take up to 15 minutes.

7. After the configuration is complete, the progress bar indicates that the system has
finished upgrading (Figure 4).

Wait for the Skills Simulator Configuration to Complete

1. When the initial configuration is complete, the Power button illuminates solid amber on
the Skills Simulator and the 3D viewer on the Surgeon Console turns off. The Surgeon
Console and the Skills Simulator will be in sleep mode.
2. Once the Skills Simulator is in sleep mode, power on the Skills Simulator.

1. Press either the system Power button or the Skills Simulator Power button to power on
the Skills Simulator.
2. After the Skills Simulator is powered on, the Power button and the fiber cable LEDs
illuminate solid blue to indicate normal power on status.

3. The 3D viewer on the Surgeon Console displays the normal Skills Simulator start up
screen.
4. The Skills Simulator will be ready for login and use after approximately two minutes.

1. If there is an error, the STATUS LED will continue to illuminate red.


2. The Configuration screen displays an error and the progress bar reports that
programming has terminated.
3. Contact Intuitive Surgical when the Skills Simulator has an error (Figure 5).
