Weighting: 60%

Portfolio size:
 For sketches: 1 A3 size sheet
 Autocad Drawings: 3 to 5 A2 size sheets
Drawing Scales:
 The scale for detailing drawings: 1:5, 1:10, 1:25.  The scale for plans,
elevations, sections: 1:200.
Note: All drawings need to be drawn within a Title Block.

Description:

Light Industrial Factory and Office Block

The client’s brief

 Figure 1 illustrates the proposed steel-framed light industrial factory and adjoining cast-
insitu reinforced concrete-framed office building in plan and section.

 The project is located on a greenfield site and will be the first phase of a planned industrial
zone in London, Ealing, United Kingdom. This site has no accessibility issues.

 The project must be visually appealing on both the interior and outside. The factory’s roof
and sides will be coated in an insulated, double-skin, profiled aluminium cladding. The
offices’ sides will be covered with glazed curtain walling.

 The client has agreed to a single centre column in the factory area, with perimeter columns
as needed to accommodate the door openings.

 A column-free area (60x10m) shall be created in the centre of the office block’s ground
floor (see Figure 1).

You are expected to produce a set of drawings with reference to above schematic plan and
section (Figure 1).

The drawings include:

Foundation Plan 15%


Plan view drawing 15%
Section and elevation drawings 15%
Detailing concrete structure such as reinforced concrete beam, etc. 10%
(a minimum of 2 drawings)
Detailing steel structure including connections, sections, etc. 10%
(a minimum of 2 drawings)
Three-dimensional (3D) demonstration 15%
Sketching skills (you are also expected to produce an Isometric sketch
10%
drawing demonstrating either part of the building or structural details.)
Presentation 10%
Total 100%

Learning on this unit is student-centred. You are expected to find information and research the
topics independently. You must be prepared to do your own research through the University
library, the Internet resources and elsewhere.
