2. Prepare a graph from the following data given in the table to show the relationship

between temperature and DO and explain.

Table 2: Relationship between water temperature (0C) and amount of DO (mg/L)

Temperature of Water (0C) Amount of DO (mg/L)

From the above table, as we observe the data, there is an apparent inverse relationship between

water temperature and the amount of dissolved oxygen. In general, as the water temperature

increases, the dissolved oxygen tends to decrease. For sample 1 and 2, where the water

temperature is 24.00-degree Celsius, the amount of dissolved oxygen decreases from 9.02mg/L

to 9.11mg/L. This means warmer water holds less dissolved oxygen compared to cooler water.

For sample 3, 4, 5 and 6; as the water temperature decreases (e.g., from 11.30°C to 1.070°C), the
amount of dissolved oxygen increases significantly (from 12.56 mg/L to 15.29 mg/L).

Conversely, as the water temperature increases (e.g., from 37.70°C to 47.10°C), the amount of

dissolved oxygen decreases notably (from 5.53 mg/L to 4.18 mg/L). Thus, it is proven that

temperature and DO have inverse relationship between them.

3. Take a picture of any waterbody/ water source adjacent to your home. Include the

picture and mention the location, then describe its cause of (visible) pollution (if

any). Finally discuss what can be done to keep it clean.

Location: Dhanmondi lake, Dhaka

The above picture is taken from Dhanmondi lake that is located in the Dhanmondi

residential area. The picture shows a large amount of water hyacinth and waste materials

which are collected from the waterbody by two people. It shows a clear picture of

manmade pollution such as- papers, plastic bottles, empty packets of chips or wastages.

Besides, there is seen water hyacinth that reduces the oxygen level in water and
considered an aquatic pest as it clogs waterbodies and harms the quality of the water

necessary for fish population.

To keep it clean the following steps can be taken:

Educate Community:

• Conduct awareness campaigns on the significance of maintaining Dhanmondi

Lake's cleanliness.

Responsible Waste Disposal:

• Promote responsible waste disposal practices among residents.

• Install proper waste bins and recycling facilities around the lake area.

Waste Management Regulations:

• Implement and enforce strict waste management regulations.

• Impose penalties for littering and illegal dumping.

Clean-Up Drives:

• Organize regular clean-up drives involving local residents and volunteers.

Water Hyacinth Control:

• Develop and implement a systematic plan for water hyacinth control.

Thus, the above steps can be taken to keep the waterbody clean.

4. Write down any four techniques of water conservation at your home.

• Turning of the waterflow while soaping or shampooing.

• While using the tub, closing the drain before turning on the water and filling it

only half full.

• Not pouring water down the drain as long as it has another use.

• Using a dishpan for washing and rinsing dishes.
