Julius Caesar (12 July 100 BC – 15

March 44 BC) was an

important Roman

general and politician who played a

crucial role in the fall of the Roman

Republic and the birth of the Roman

Empire. Caesar is one of the most

famous and easily recognized names

in the history of Ancient Rome, both

due to his remarkable career, and his shocking assassination in the Roman Senate House

on the 15th of March in 44 BC. After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Rome was thrown

into a series of vicious civil wars which ended with the downfall of the Roman Republic,

and many of the senators who murdered Caesar were assassinated themselves.

Not only was he an inspirational leader, but Caesar was also a great writer. He wrote many

books about the wars he fought in.Caesar’s uncle was a man called Gaius Marius, who was

famous for developing the Roman army. Caesar had an adopted son, Octavian. He was the

next leader of Rome and is also known as Caesar Augustus. Some historians believe that

Caesar might have suffered from epilepsy. According to some resources from Ancient

Rome, Caesar was quite a handsome man. It is said that he was “tall of stature with a fair

complexion, shapely limbs, a somewhat full face, and keen black eyes.”
