ANGLES

An angle is the part of a plane determined by two semi rights called two sides of the angle, a
and b, which are based on the same point called vertex O.

The angles are usually designated with Greek letters (α, β, μ ...) and can have a positive,
AOB, or negative, COD, as you can see in the figure below.

The angles are measured in units of the sexagesimal system, in degrees (°), minutes ( ') and
seconds ( "). One degree equals sixty minutes and sixty seconds to a minute. The greater
the angle of 360 degrees, which is covering the whole plan.

Classification of angles

To establish a classification of angles according to grades and respect other angles:

• According grades angles can be:

• Respect of other angles include:

- Consecutive: angles that have a common side and a vertex.
- Adjacent: two consecutive angles whose external sides form an angle of 180º.
- Opposites: angles that have the common vertex; the sides of a prolongation of the angles
are opposite sides of the angle and the angles are always equal.
- Complementary: two angles that add 90º.
- Supplementary: two angles that add up180º

Operations to angles

In addition to transport it them and measure them, you can perform operations with other
angles, such as the layout of the bisects the addition, subtraction and division of angles,
among others.

● Bisects of the angle

1 . With center O and an opening of any compass, it traces the arc BC.
2. Taking center B and C successively with an opening greater than half of BC, two arcs are
drawn to determine the point D.
3. Joining or D is drawn bisects requested.

● Bisector of two lines that are cut offedge of the paper limits.

1. Take any point of each line (A and B) and joined by a segment.

2. Outlines the bisectors of angles determined by the straight segment AB loop; and get the
points P and Q, which are the intersections of the bisectors.
3. For bisects the requestedtogether the points

● Draw of an angle equal to another

You must to draw an angle α given on the stright r from a point A.

1. Draw the ray r and the center A '. With the opening of the compass AB equal to the given
angle, draws an arc so you get the point B '.
2. With center B 'and an opening of the compass BC, draws another arc that determines the
point C'sobre ray.
3. Joining A 'C' get the desired angle.

● Sum of angles

You must added to the angle α the angle β on a straight line r from point A of the line.
• From the vertices the angles α and β draws an arc of the same radius.
• Making a center in A and the same radius arcs which are drawn on the above angles α and
β, it draws on another ray of so you get the point 1.
• From the first point, take the opening angle α (1-2) and is located on the arc of the angle
we are building. Then do the same with that of the β, ie, (3B).
• A vertex joins the last point B. The angle obtained A1B is the sum of the two angles given.

● Difference of angles

These reduce the angle α the angle β on a straight from point a on the line.

• As in the previous activity, draws an arc of the same radius from the vertices of the angles
α and β.
• Draw first angle larger β, and transported over the line from point A.ra
•Taking center point 2 and 3B perform radius arc formed by the intersecting points 1 and 2 to
B.
• Joins the vertex A with B, and the angle A1B is the difference between the angles α and β.

● Division of a right angle into three equal parts

1. Draw a right angle triangle and the square.

2. Take any radius and center on O draws an arc that cut the sides of the angle at points A
and B.
3. Keeping the same radius and center at points A and B are drawn two arches in the
previous cut, give us points 1 and 2.
4. Vertex uniting with one or two and get the division of the angle into three equal parts.

Angle in division 2, 4, 8 equal parts ...

We have already seen how bisects the angle divided into two equal parts . The bisectors of
each angle primitive parts obtained divided into four equal parts. For eight equal angle, find
the bisectors of the four previous parts and so on.
