Chapter 4
The digital elevation model of the Daet river was pre-processed using ArcHydro Toolbox in
delineating the watershed and generating different hydrologic inputs. The pre-processed
elevation map was composed of build walls, fill sinks, flow direction, flow accumulation,
processing, drainage line processing, and adjoint catchment processing. The pre-
processed DEM was then subjected to river model generation to identify the flow path of
the river and the total number of subbasins. Seventeen subbasins were identified, and a
total drainage area of 9.8151 km2 was generated throughout this process. Show in figure
The generated DEM was subjected to basin processing using the Geospatial Hydrologic
Modeling Extension (GEO-HMS) 10.2, another ArcGIS plugin. This procedure generates
the physical parameters at the subbasin level, such as subbasin slope, basin centroids,
and longest flow path (Santos et al., 2021). Show in figure (what) is the output of basin

As a final output for watershed delineation and a preparation for the analysis of hydrologic
model, watershed boundaries and the direction of the drainage were identified. Some water
basins were merged to minimize to a reasonable number of river basins for more
straightforward analysis. Show in figure (what) is the final output for HEC-HMS calibration.

5.1 Summary
Due to its natural topography, wherein a river passes through, Daet, Camarines Norte, has the
most significant number of barangays affected by flooding in the province. Severe problems in

transportation, agriculture, and livelihood are just some of the emerging issues in the town caused
by persistent flooding. There are flood mitigating measures at hand; however, the existing flood
mitigating structures are dysfunctional. This project aims to identify the inundated areas along the
Daet river through hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and simulations to design an advantageous
flood mitigating structure based on their effectiveness, economy, and societal impacts. The ArcGIS
software was utilized to generate the river model system. Then, to calibrate the parameters of the
river, the software HEC-HMS was applied. Lastly, HEC-RAS was used to simulate the inundation
5.1 Conclusion
5.1 Recommendation
The detailed structural design of the flood mitigating structure is recommended for the possibility of
implementation of the project in the area. The details are pertaining to specifics like the number of
rebars, size of the members, and other structural design components while considering the
geographic location and the loads to be carried by the structures. The consideration of return
periods greater than 100 years will prepare the province to sustain the mitigation of inundation if the
