SAMPLE PROBLEM # 1:
P=QωE
𝜋 2
Q = A1V1 = 4 0.15 36 = 0.636 𝑚3/𝑠
P = 0.636 (9810)(66.06) = 412,159 watts
P = 412.16 KW
SAMPLE PROBLEM # 2:
A gas flows through a square conduit. At one point along the
conduit, the conduit sides are 0.100 m, the velocity is 7.55 m/s, and
the gas’s mass density (for its particular pressure and temperature)
1.09 kg/m3. At a second point, the conduit sides are 0.250 m, the
velocity is 2.02 m/s. Find the mass flow rate of the gas and its mass
density at the second point.
0.10 0.250
Solution: 1 2
Qm = ρ AV
at Point 1
Q1 = ρ1 A1V1 = 1.09 (0.10 x 0.10) (7.55) = 0.0823 Kg/s
Q1 = Q2
Q1 = ρ2 A2V2
0.0823 = ρ2 (0.250 x 0.250)(2.02)
ρ2 = 0.652 Kg/m3
SAMPLE PROBLEM # 3:
A fluid flowing in a pipe 30 cm in diameter has a uniform velocity of 4m/s. The
pressure at the center of the pipe is 40 Kpa and the elevation of the pipe
centerline above the assume datum is 4.5m. Compute the total energy per
unit weight of the flowing fluid if it is
a) oil (sp.=0.80)
b) gas( w=8.50 n/m3)
30 cm
P = 40 kPa V = 4 m/s
z = 4.5 m
