receptor blockers are commonly known as ARBs. A low-dose combination product is often prescribed as
initial therapy in patients whose blood pressure is substantially above goal. In addition, a combination
product may be substituted for individual components in patients currently maintained on both agents
separately or in patients not adequately controlled with monotherapy who are currently using one of
the agents or an agent within the same antihypertensive drug class. When using a thiazide diuretic,
UpToDate generally suggests using chlorthalidone or indapamide rather than hydrochlorothiazide;
although, fewer such single-pill combinations are available.
* Combination product components and corresponding doses are listed in the order provided in
licensed product labeling.
