The chart illustrates the population size, death rate, birth rate in England from 1700 to

2000

The two charts depict the population and a comparison between birth and death rate in
England over a span of 300 years, commencing in 1700.

Overall, there was a notable trend of population growth in England throughout the entire
period. In addition, the birth and death rate increased to a peak in 1800, but later decreased
in the remaining years, with the former remaining always higher than the latter.

At the start of the period, the UK population was relatively small, standing at a modest 3
million. This number then experienced a remarkable surge, reaching a high of 50 million at
the end of the period.

In 1700, the birth rate was recorded at 10 per 1000, while the mortality rate stood at 6. One
hundred years later, these figures experienced a significant upswing, peaking at 30 and 25
per 1000 respectively. Subsequently, the birth rate gradually declined to 16 per 1000 by 1900
and remained stable until 2000. Meanwhile, the death rate steadily decreased before hitting
a low of 4 per 1000 in the final year.
