Tier 4 Maintenance Guide
For courses of nine months or more, applicants must show evidence of funds to cover fees for the first year of the course plus living expenses of 7,200 (in London) or 5,400 (outside London). For courses of less than nine months, applicants must show evidence of funds to cover fees for the full course plus 800 per month (in London) 600 per month (outside London) for each month of study. An applicants Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) should indicate tuition and accommodation fees already paid, which will be deducted from the amount required. If details of money paid are not on the CAS, applicants should provide an original paper receipt issued by their sponsor confirming the amount paid. An applicants funds must be in a bank account in the applicants own name or in the name of their parent/legal guardian. A joint account is also acceptable provided the applicant or their parent(s)/legal guardian(s) is specifically named as one of the account holders. If the bank account is only in the name of the parents/legal guardian, the applicant must provide an original of their birth certificate, family registration or court document and a letter of financial consent from their parent/guardian. Applicants may alternatively show proof of a loan from a regulated institution, in their own name. Funds must be in cash funds. Financial instruments such as shares, bonds, overdrafts, credit cards, insurance and pension funds are not acceptable. Applicants must show that they have held the money for at least a consecutive 28 day period finishing on the date of the closing balance. The date of the closing balance must not be more than one month before the date the application was lodged at a visa application centre. Funds must not have dropped below the required amount on any day of the 28 day period. The funds evidence needs to demonstrate this. If the evidence is not an itemised bank statement or bank book showing the transaction history over the 28 day period, (e.g.: if it is a fixed deposit certificate) applicants must produce a recently dated supporting letter from their bank that includes: - Confirmation of sufficient funds to meet the maintenance criteria and that these funds
