a) Find the four-point DFT of 𝑥(𝑛)
b) If 𝑦(𝑛) is the four-point circular convolution of 𝑥(𝑛) with itself, find 𝑦(𝑛) and the
four-point DFT 𝑌(𝑘).
c) With ℎ(𝑛) = 𝛿(𝑛) + 𝛿(𝑛 − 1) + 2𝛿(𝑛 − 3), find the four-point circular
convolution of 𝑥(𝑛) with ℎ(𝑛).
3. Design an IIR low-pass Butterworth filter for the following specifications: 3 3,4 1.4.1
Passband: 0.4466 ≤ 𝐻 𝑒 ≤1 |𝜔| ≤ 0.1938𝜋
Stopband: 𝐻 𝑒 ≤ 0.1585 0.2803𝜋 ≤ |𝜔| ≤ 𝜋
Assume T=1 sec. Using
a) Impulse-Invariant method
b) Bilinear Transformation method
4. Perform circular convolution of 𝑥(𝑛) = {1,1} & ℎ(𝑛) = {1,1,2,2} to get output 2 2,3 1.4.1
sequence 𝑦(𝑛) using:
a) Graphical method
b) DFT-IDFT method
c) Linear convolution through circular convolution with zero padding.
5. Design a BPF of unity gain to pass frequencies in the range 1-2 rad/sample using 3 3,4 1.4.1
Hanning window=5. Draw the filter structure.
6. An FIR digital filter has the unit impulse response sequence ℎ(𝑛) = {2,2,1}. 2 3,4 1.4.1
Determine the output sequence in response to the input sequence 𝑥(𝑛) =

a) Overlap-save method

10. Consider two types of cascade of an upsampler and a downsampler as shown below 5 3,4 1.4.1
in Fig. (i) and Fig. (ii):

i) Determine the z-transforms of the outputs 𝑌 (𝑧) and 𝑌 (𝑧).


ii) If 𝐿 = 𝑀 = 2, and the input sequence in both the cases is 𝑥(𝑛), show which
one of the above cascade combinations will produce the output 𝑌 (𝑧) and 𝑌 (𝑧)
as 𝑋(𝑧)?
iii) For the input sequence 𝑥(𝑛) = {1, 2, 3, 2, 1}, determine the output 𝑦 (𝑛) and
𝑦 (𝑛).
