4.2 CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT

TABLE 4.1 Construction equipment

Equipment name Function
RMC Plant RMC plant is where ready-to-use concrete is made in a controlled
environment and delivered to construction sites, saving time and ensuring
consistent quality.
Bar Cutting A bar cutting machine is a tool used in construction to precisely cut
reinforcement bars to the required length and shape. It helps improve
efficiency and accuracy in reinforcing concrete structures
Vibrator Is used to compact the newly casted section of concrete, in order to prevent
segregation

Bar Bending Bar bending is the process of shaping reinforcement bars to fit the design of
concrete structures. It's done using specialized machines to bend the bars
accurately according to construction specifications, improving efficiency and
ensuring structural integrity.
Truck Is a large truck usually with a container on the back of it that is used for
carrying and unloading loose material used in the site.

4.3 CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

 Cement

 Sand

 Aggregates

 Reinforcement Bars
 Bricks

TABLE 4 2 Construction material

Material name Function

Cement In our Site Ordinary Portland cement, is used.
The main functions of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)
include binding together aggregates to form concrete,
providing strength to the concrete, controlling setting time,
and contributing to the durability of structures.
Additionally, OPC reacts with water to form a paste that
hardens and adheres to other materials, helping to create a
cohesive and durable construction material.
Aggregate It’s commonly used in concrete to provide volume (as a
filler material) at low cost. On our site 20 mm size crushed
stones are used, and they are stored in a clean surface to
avoid any
climatic defect
Brick First class bricks is used.
First-class bricks are high-quality, well-burnt bricks with
uniform shape, size, and sharp edges. They have low water
absorption, high compressive strength, and minimal defects,
making them suitable for premium construction projects.

Reinforcement bars It should be placed in a dry place to avoid corrosion and to

protect direct Sunlight. Some of the steels of different
diameters used in these sites are: Φ8, Φ10, Φ12, Φ16, 18
20 nd 25 Fe 500.

4.4 MAJOR WORKS ON OUR SITE

 Construction of columns
 Construction beams and slabs
 Construction of staircase
 Masonry

4.4.1 CONSTRUCTION OF COLUMNS

The construction process of a column typically involves several steps:

 Formwork: Erecting temporary molds or formwork around the area where the column
will be built to contain the concrete during pouring.

 Reinforcement: Placing steel reinforcement bars (rebar) within the formwork to

reinforcement the column and provide additional strength.

 Concrete Pouring: Pouring concrete into the formwork, ensuring it reaches all areas
 and is
properly compacted to eliminate air pockets.

 Curing: Allowing the concrete to cure and harden properly. This often involves keeping
 the
concrete moist and at a consistent temperature for a certain period to ensure proper
strength development.

 Stripping: Removing the formwork once the concrete has cured sufficiently,
typically after a few days.

17 | P a g e
4.4.2 CONSTRUCTION OF BEAMS AND SLABS

The construction process for beams and slabs is similar to that of columns

 Formwork: Erecting temporary molds or formwork to contain the concrete during

pouring. For beams, formwork is often shaped to match the desired cross-sectional
profile of the beam.

 Reinforcement: Placing steel reinforcement bars (rebar) within the formwork to

reinforce the beam and provide additional strength. This reinforcement is typically
placed in a specific arrangement to ensure optimal load-bearing capacity.

 Concrete Pouring: Pouring concrete into the formwork, ensuring it reaches all areas
and is properly compacted to eliminate air pockets. Care is taken to prevent segregation
of concrete and ensure proper bonding with the reinforcement.

 Curing: Allowing the concrete to cure and harden properly. This may involve
keeping the concrete moist and at a consistent temperature for a certain period to ensure
proper strength development.

4.4.3 CONSTRUCTION OF STAIRCASE

The construction of a staircase involves several key steps:

 Reinforcement: Install steel reinforcement bars (rebar) within the formwork to add

strength to the concrete staircase.

 Pouring concrete: Fill the formwork with concrete, ensuring it's properly mixed and

leveled to form the staircase steps.

18 | P a g e
 Curing: Allow the concrete to cure and gain strength over time, typically by keeping

it moist and protected from excessive temperature changes.

 Finishing: Once the concrete has cured, remove the formwork and finish the

staircase surface as desired, such as by polishing or adding a non-slip coating.

4.4.4 MASONRY
Masonry work involves
 Layout: Mark the structure's layout.

 Mixing mortar: Prepare mortar mixture.

 Laying units: Place masonry units in pattern.

 Jointing: Apply and tool mortar between units.

 Curing: Allow mortar to harden properly.

 Finishing: Clean excess mortar and finish joints.
