INTRODUCTION
The TechVision Remote Control Panel is a device that not only replaces a Quantum
Tube support’s "standard equipment" hand grip unit for positioning the X-ray Tube,
but it also serves as a convenient patient area control with respect to generator expo-
sure settings, and image preview, when Quantum’s , Carestream DRX-1 integrated
system software is implemented. A membrane, tactile-switch pad, housing with con-
veniently located buttons for control of tube positioning is integrated in TechVision’s
faceplate.
The touch screen, which occupies the innermost part of the TechVision faceplate, is a
16-bit, 600 x 800 pixel, color touch screen, measuring 8.25 in. (20.6 cm) diagonally.
This screen features the capability of instantly switching the view between the Gener-
ator Control Panel, and the image field of the Study Management environment. Tech-
Vision models are designated for the two basic tube transport systems Quantum
offers:

OVERVIEW
This chapter provides instructions for configuring, calibrating and certifying the Tech-
Vision Remote X-ray Control following installation. Certification must be performed to
assure compliance with applicable provisions of FDA Performance Standards 21 CFR
Sub-Chapter J, Part 1020.
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION/CALIBRATION
The TechVision Remote Control has Service Modes that allow the X-Ray Technician
or the Field Service Technician to modify the operation of TechVision and allow it to
be calibrated. The procedures that follow describe, in order, how to:
• Access either the Field Tech Service Mode or Operator Service Mode options
• Use each of the Field Tech Service Mode functions and utilities (including
model-specific utilities depending on the platform to which the TechVision
Remote Control is attached)
• Use each of the Operator Service functions and utilities.
ACCESSING SERVICE MODE
Calibration and configuration can only be performed by accessing the TechVision

Chapter 4 Theory of Operation
OVERVIEW
This section describes various characteristics of the TechVision’s design, functionality,
and compatibility with available mechanical support systems. Figure 4-1 is a high-
level block diagram, which illustrates the four interconnected internal components
built into the TechVision unit, and its connectivity to external devices.
PLATFORM SYSTEM
TechVision is an option available on Quantum's X-ray platforms:
• Quantum Medical Imaging Model QS-550 Free-Standing Tube Stand
• Quantum Medical Imaging Model RS-590 OverHead Tube Crane
It replaces the standard-equipped hand-grip on the above units and provides the fol-
lowing value-added features:
• 10.4", 1024 x 768 dpi, feature rich XGA interactive color touch-screen
• Digital Tube Angle measurement and SID Display
• 10/100Mbps TCP/IP interface
• CAN-BUS interface for control of advanced platforms, Collimators, and DAP
subsystems
• Remote selection and display of generator exposure settings at TechVision
Hand grips via Ethernet communications with the X-ray generator.
• Digital X-Ray image preview/recall
The following paragraphs provide detailed theory of operation of the various
TechVision components. See Chapter 6, DIAGRAMS for system schematics.
THEORY OF OPERATION
OVERALL HARDWARE ARCHITECTURE
The TechVision platform electronics consists of 4 major interconnected
components:
1. TechVision Main Board (AY40-093S)
2. Single Board Computer (AY40-092S)
3. LCD Touchscreen Display (EL31-032)
4. TechVision QS-550 Interface PCB (AY40-094S), used on systems with QS-550
Tubestand
5. Membrane Keypad and Switches
ter (U1). This interface also provides galvanic isolation between the CANBUS
data I/O lines and the TechVision electronics. CAN-BUS interface is provided
on the TechVision QS-550 Interface PCB (connectors J5 and J6).
4. Isolated SID Detent Input Circuit: The Main Microcontroller (U2) reads all
detent switches (optically isolated by U7 and U8), and will relay these switch
closures to the TechVision Main PCB (AY40-093S), via high speed CAN-BUS.
5. Isolated Output Circuit: The QS-550 Interface PCB (AY40-093S), provides
relay-isolated, dry contact closures, to control up to four electromagnetic
brakes in the QS-550 Tubestand. Relay K1 will unlock the Vertical Brake, K2
unlocks the Tube Angle Brake, K3 unlocks transverse movement, and K4
unlocks Longitudinal movement. These relays are all designed to maintain all
brakes in a locked state (i.e., fail-safe), when they are not energized. The
relays are controlled by Main Microcontroller U2, via commands received over
the CAN-BUS interface from TechVision Main PCB (AY40-093S).

Perform Every Six Months:
• Visually inspect the entire TechVision unit for loose hardware,
loose cable connections
• Conduct a general inspection for worn or damaged parts
• Verify that all ground conductors are properly and securely
installed and free of corrosion or damage
• Check all electrical cabling and wiring for wear and fraying
• Verify normal operation of the TechVision front panel
(membrane) and hand grip "pinky" switches
TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE
The TechVision troubleshooting issues covered in this manual are described in flow
diagram format on the following pages. Each diagram is designed to provide
instructions aimed at discovering the cause of the fault condition described in that
diagram’s figure caption, however the instructions in certain diagrams direct the
troubleshooting process to particular topics found in other diagrams. For the pur-
pose of assisting the Troubleshooter in quickly locating the proper path, each dia-
gram is assigned a number (Troubleshooting Condition #), and this number is
referenced in the instruction block, where the troubleshooting path transitions to
another diagram. The table below, correlates the troubleshooting conditions con-
tained in this manual with their respective Troubleshooting Condition Number.
