Remove BRS unit from aircraft. On canister type units, remove the cap by unscrewing the acorn nut on top and cutting the silicone around perimeter. Disconnect cables from small Link. For softpacks, just lift flap and disconnect cables from small Link. Remove the Activation Housing assy. as per DRWG. 610, if you have the field removeable type. (Note: This applies only to those rockets which are contained in a Launch Tube, and that have plastic caps near the base of the Tube. If you have one of the very early Rackets and it looks like "A" below, you do not have a field temoveable Activation Housing. Simply unscrew the large nut which joins the flexible Housing to the black Cone. Pull Housing back carefully, just enough to expose the two 1/16" cables- and cut them. DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 5 LBS TENSION TO EXPOSED CABLE! The "B* style rocket fits inside of the Launch Tube “C", below. Most of these had a field removeable Housing assy., although some of the first units built did not. These units also will have to have their Housing removed as in 5 above. Different models used different hardware to secure the Rocket. “A” generally used 2, 1/4-20 Socket Head Cap Screws, "B" would use either 10-24 Button Head Cap Screws or 10-24 threaded studs with nuts. All hardware screws into the Launch Base of the Rocket. Removing the hardware from a Rocket in a Launch Tube allows the Rocket to be removed from the Tube. The Rockets are connected to their Launch Bases by a small Nylon Shear Pin. The Shear Pin must be broken to separate the Rocket from its Launch Base. Do this by placing the Launch Body in a vise, and grasping the Rocket tightly at the tapered Nozzle Body, and twisting. You may need to use a large vice grip or channel lock etc.. LAUNCH BASE NOZZLE BODY ROCKET BODY ORTMAN KEY ® once the two are separated, use an Exacto knife (or equivalent) to dig out the silicone sealant from the "Ortman Key" hole, as shown. This will expose the Ortman Key, and will allow you to remove it. NOTE: The ‘Ortman Key’ is a square brass wire with a small tab bent on one end, The Ortman Key fits between a matching pair of grooves in the Rocket Body and the Nozzle Body. Before the chisel end slips to the other side, use a small screwdriver or nail etc. to pry the end of the Ortman Key out of the hole. Now, start twisting towards the Key and you'll see that this action keeps exposing more of the Key. © © OO Continue twisting until the entire Key is exposed and you can lift the tab out of the hole.
