WEEK 8 PERFORMS A QUALITATIVE

ANALYSIS OF SPORTS SKILLS

What I Need to Know


How are you today? I hope you are still doing your best in each module that
you are working with every week. In the previous module, the lesson that you
have learned was all about the demonstration of proper jumping technique
and different types of jumps. In this module you will perform a qualitative
analysis of sports skills. It is a bit difficult task but you can do this.

Objective:

At the end of this module, you as learner is expected to:

a. To define what is the definition of fundamental sports skills.


b. To describe the effect of sports skills in my life and to the community.
c. To integrate the sports skills in your own sports event.

What I Know
ACITIVITY 1 – PRE – TEST
Instructions: In this activity, you will try to define the word sports skills through the
use of the following images below. You can construct at least 5 sentences that is
connected with the topic. What do you think is the definition of “Sport Skills” base on
the images?

What’s In
 The previous lesson was all about demonstration of proper jumping technique
and the different types of it. In this module, you perform a qualitative analysis
of sports skills.

 Sports skills may differ from various athletes since you have different types of
events that you play. Even though you are part of the different groups of event,
you can still grasp learnings on how to be a great athlete.

 All you need to do is focus on the activity and enjoy the learning process.

FUNdamental Sports Skills

There are four building blocks which are fundamentally essential for all sports. By
introducing and developing these components participants will have the skills and
understanding which will kick start their life long journey in sports.

What Is It

Throw and Catch


This module develops a wide variety of throwing, rolling & bouncing activities using a
variety of developmentally appropriate balls and equipment designed to challenge and
stimulate the children’s coordination. Activities and session plans are designed to
improve confidence in all areas of children’s throwing and catching abilities.

Balance and Control


Here children focus on activities to build balance and control in a number of uniquely
designed activities designed to stimulate the vestibular system.
They will practice skills such as balancing on beams, manipulating their way through
tunnels & using numerous different obstacles to improve spatial awareness, depth
perception, awareness of others, their environment, balance and coordination.
Our aim is to build confidence and develop skills that will form the foundation for
future success.

Movement and Coordination


Learning correct movement patterns and techniques are vitally important for future
success. In this unit children will combine aspects from the other three units to build
and develop fundamental movement patterns and suitable actions for performing
sports related tasks.
Children will build confidence in areas such as running, walking, skipping, jumping,
bouncing, crawling and even dancing.

Using External Objects


Children explore different activities using objects that are external from the body. We
incorporate a number of common sporting apparatus such as tennis racquets, hockey
sticks, T-ball and large balls.
This module aims to build confidence in using this equipment by developing
perception skills such as tracking, speed/timing, depth and hand-eye coordination.
The understanding and ability to perform these skills and techniques are required in
all sports where striking is required (tennis, golf, cricket, football etc).

sport skills in your own type of sports that you play. Write at least one sentence on
how you honed the following.

Summary:

Sports helps an individual much more than in the


physical aspects alone. It builds character, teaches and develops strategic thinking,
analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking.
Social and emotional, mental and cognitive learning outcomes are:
 Increased confidence and self believe
 Cooperative skills
 Develop problem solving skills
 Develop life-long habits and a love of sport. There are four building blocks which are

Essay: Write an essay about sports skills that compose of at
least 5 sentences. You can use your own experiences and learnings from playing your
own sports. You can also give some insights about how to keep your game good.

Assessment

Instructions: Identify what types of fundamental sport skill is stated in each


item. Please use a separate sheet of paper for your answer. Avoid any writings
in this module.

Additional Activities

Are you watching your favorite sports every day? Your last
activity will be connected to your favorite sports TV show. It may be basketball,
baseball, football, volleyball, or even individual events. Watch and observe the different
style of the players of how they play the game. Analyze their movement and reaction.
Write down your observation about their skills and what are the precautionary
measure they are doing in order to prevent injuries. You can even write about how
they wear their accessories and how it affects their game.

Use the bullet type format in writing down your observation. Write at least 10
analyzation. Use a separate sheet of paper for your answers.
