http://consteampunk20011.blogspot.com/
III Steampunk Spanish Convention On 12th and 13th November it will take place the third Steampunk and Retrofuturistic Convention at Espai Jove la Fontana, Barcelona (Spain, Europe), where all kind of people will come to know and enjoy these movements that are becoming mainstream, with a critical view of our society characteristic of Sci-Fi genre, and a proclamation of the creativity and aesthetics of yesteryears. In the Convention the visitor will find a wide variety of activities: roundtable discussions, emphasizing the one carried out by the Politecnic University of Catalunya and Sci-Fi expert Prof. M. Barcel, or a talk to know more about retrofuturisms, and we stress the line of patrimonial historical action Pasado Industrial, counting on the collaboration of the photographer Frank Gmez and the Consorci del Parc Fluvial del Llobregat. Many presentations will be held as well, such as the retrofuturistic novel Los horrores del Escalpelo with D. Mares, or the short film La Sombra del Sylffe. There will be such activities available on English for those adventurers who will come from outter Spain! For example, workshops to learn assembly and building techniques of retrofuturistic items, a wide selection of board and roleplaying games, contests like the beards and mustaches competition, a small exhibition and a gorgeous tea room. One of the star activities that we would like to enhance is the collaboration with Passatge Inslit. In a small passage visitors will discover and get thrilled with an insolit scenic proposal with retrofuturistic and vintage touches. Besides, on Saturday 12th at 10:00 p.m., a retrofuturistic party is foreseen in a typical environment of these aesthetics, with suitable music and small performances. And even more activities that visitors will discover and enjoy with free of charge access. Steampunk and retrofuturisms Retrofuturisms are movements with literary and aesthetical origins which deal with futures projected in our past but not fulfilled, and deal with our lack of expectations of future and pessimism for science, as well as criticises consumerism, exacerbated minimalism and the culture of disposability. Steampunk is the most up-to-date and popular retrofuturistic movement. It is inspired in the Victorian and Edwardian vision of science and technology, especially in Verne, Wells and Tesla. All over the world, Spain included, there are communities, events, parties and exhibitions. Janelle Monae or postmodern architecture are examples of the most mainstream retrofuturism, and Spanish designers such as Bibian Blue or Maya Hansen, companies such as Claires, TV series such as Warehouse 13, or electro-swing, are inspired in steampunk aesthetics and movement. Dare to discover all they keep inside!
