Dawson Creek, located in the westernmost of Canada’s ten provinces, is a city

incorporated in 1958, bounded to the north by Yukon and the Northwest Territories, to the

east by the province of Alberta, to the south by the U.S. states of Montana, Idaho, and

Washington, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean and the southern panhandle region of the

U.S. state of Alaska. Being located in the Boreal Plains Eco-Zone, Dawson Creek is known

for its short summers and long winters, which present to be very cold, some of the coldest in

British Columbia. Therefore, one of the primary advices I would give to anyone travelling to

Dawson Creek for the very first time would be to consider bringing along a good winter gear

such as winter jackets, winter boots, gloves, thermal wear, insulated water bottles etc, along

with adequate skin care products for the winter.

Also, it would be wise to join online communities relating to Dawson Creek, before

coming in as it will equip the incoming student to get hands on information about the life,

culture and the societal framework of the city, in addition to getting valuable information

relating to housing. It would be ideal for students to come over in either the fall or spring

intakes as it would provide them ample time and space to acclimatise themselves in the

months ahead. Also it is highly advisable to familiarize with the transportation system

available in Dawson Creek in order to facilitate an ease in travel. Furthermore, it is highly

advisable for those coming in as international students to research and acquire an

international credit/debit card or a valid travel card which is valid for transactions in Canada.

Lastly, but most importantly it is distinctly appropriate and desirable for students to learn

about Canadian culture so that they would be able to assimilate and adjust to their life in

Canada as a student.
