Rizal’s Experience the Moment He Decided to Study Abroad
After several days of travel, Rizal reached Spain on summertime and met his
former classmates from Ateneo who usually met at “Plaza de Cataluna”.
Before classes started, he was able to write some articles published in
Diariong Tagalog, one of which was “Amor Patrio” (Love of Country) with
the help of Basilio Tedoro.

Rizal wrote a letter to his favorite sister, Trinidad on


March 11, 1886 telling her about German women.
In his letter, Rizal expressed his high regard and
admiration for German women.
“The German woman is serious, studious, diligent, their clothes do not have
plenty of color and generally they only have three or four, and they do not
pay much attention to their clothes nor to jewelres. They dress their hair
simply, which is thin but beautiful in their childhod”.

Rizal faced serious financial issues during his time in Germany.


His financial struggles stemmed from his family’s failing agriculture
business in Calamba.
These problems affected his health, preventing him from affording
nutritious food and paying rent.
Contemplated burning the manuscript of his first novel due to
desparation.
