Department of Education
Region XII
Kidapawan City Division
I-OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: B. Performance Standard: Learning Competency/ies:
The learners demonstrate The learners should be able to develop a written (S8FE-Ia-15)
understanding of Newton’s three plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics” The learners should be able to
laws of motion and uniform investigate the relationship between the
circular motion. amount of force applied and the mass of
the object to the amount of change in
objects motion.
Objectives:
1.Describe the first law of motion
2.State the relationship of mass and
inertia
3.Identify situations in daily life that
they can apply the concept of inertia.
II-CONTENT Module I: FORCES AND MOTION
Lesson 1: FIRST LAW OF OTION
III- LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Page/s : pp. 5 - 8
2. Learner’s Materials Pages : pp.11-12

4. Additional Materials from learning Resources(LR) portals:
D. Discussing the new concepts and practicing Group the learners into four (3) groups .
new skills#1 Group 1 and 2 will perform activity 3A- investigating Inertia in LM’s p. 11- Coin
Drop
Group 3 and 4 will perform activity 3B- investigating Inertia in LM’s p. 11- Stack of
Coins
Rubrics will be used to guide the students on what to do during the activity (present
and revised rubrics with the students)
“An object at rest will remain at and an object in motion will continue to move in a straight
line at constant velocity (speed and direction ) unless acted upon by an unbalance force.”
The first law of motion is also known as the law of INERTIA.
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist being moved, or if the object is moving to resist a
change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on it.
Mass has an affect on inertia; the greater the mass the greater the inertia.
(Demonstrate to students. A chair can easily be pushed but when a student sits on the chair
you can hardly push the chair.)

Ask why wearing of seatbelts is important how can you relate it to the first law of motion?
I. Evaluation of Learning Say: Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1.The first law of motion states that if all the forces acting upon an object are Balanced, then
there will be :
a.Acceleration b. deceleration c. stopping of object d. no acceleration
2.Which of the following statements is true according to Newton’s First Law of Motion?
a.A net force is required to maintain an object at rest
b.A net force is required to maintain an object’s constant velocity
c.A net force is required to maintain an object ‘s constant velocity
d.All of the above.
3.The first law of motion is also known as _______________.
a.Law of acceleration c. law of conservation
b.Law of Inertia d. law of interaction
4.Why is wearing of seatbelt is important?
a.wearing a seat belt while traveling in a car can help reduce the chance of injury or
death as a result of a crash
b.wearing a seat belt while traveling is a trend and one must use it
c.seatbelts are recommended to make the travel faster
d.seatbelts are for the comfort of the passengers
J. Additional activities for application or Design an activity on the application of the first law of motion to be presented / demonstrated
remediation in the ICL period.
Define : acceleration, distance , displacement, deceleration, speed and velocity
