Introduction
The 21st century is an era of innovation and progress in many fields, including
fashion. 21st century fashion is not just about wearing clothes to cover the body but
also a way to express oneself, communicate with society, and show respect for
cultural values. 21st century fashion also reflects the trends, changes, and challenges
of the times, from technology, environment, and health to politics, economics, and
society.
Body
One of the outstanding characteristics of 21st-century fashion is its diversity and
richness. People have more choices in styles, colors, materials, and accessories to suit
each situation, each purpose, and each personal preference. 21st-century fashion is
also not constrained by rigid rules or barriers of gender, age, or status. People can
freely be creative and express their personalities through unique and different outfits.
Some examples of fashion trends that demonstrate the fusion of styles and influences
are:
 A typical example of the diversity and style of 21st-century fashion is the
Y2K trend. The Y2K concept started as a technological term, then became
widely used in many other fields, including fashion. According to Katherine
(2023), the popular styles of the late 1990s and early 2000s were the origins
of Y2K fashion. Y2K style inspiration in fashion comes from many different
sources, mainly from POP music icons in the 90s. The fashion clothing style
of POP music stars is considered Y2K standards, impressing iconic faces like
Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Spice Girls,... Currently, Y2K style has
become more diverse, and big brands are also gradually launching many
designs following this trend. Style Y2K fashion used vibrant, rebellious, and
unconventional items, highlighting each person's unique personality. It was
largely inspired by popular culture and was the last era in which fashion was
no longer dependent on overt logos. Y2K style gives the wearer a classic,
youthful, and dynamic look. Details such as crop tops, torn jeans, leather
jackets, knitted sweaters, sneakers, or mini handbags are combined to create
outstanding and unique outfits.

 Dark Academia: Thuy Dung (2020) Dark Academia fashion originated in
European countries, more specifically from private school uniforms in the
context of the 30s and 40s. This trend is inspired by literature. learn. Learning,
art, architecture, and classic Gothic fashion. Dark Academia fashion features
dark colors, tweeds, tailored silhouettes, blazers, cardigans, sweaters, trousers,
hats, and glasses. Dark Academia's fashion image comes closer to reality
through popular culture publications such as movies, books, stories, etc.The
most prominent and familiar is the classic Harry Potter film series (2001–
2011), in which Dark Academia is set. The main outfit includes a basic shirt,
sweater, striped tie, and cassock. Dark Academia fashion is elegant, scientific,
and mysterious, so in terms of image, Dark Academia often has dark colors
with The old part contains sadness and longing for the concept of "old
beauty".

 Color blocking: Stephen Burrows, the disco fashion designer who brought
American fashion to the global stage, is still pondering style today (Greta, J.
2021). He is considered a leading designer for the color block style. This
trend is inspired by the geometric abstract art movement that uses bold and
contrasting colors to create striking compositions. Color block fashion
features solid colors, sharp shapes, clean lines, minimal details, and
accessories. Color block fashion is simple, modern, and eye-catching.

 Minimalism: Theo (Barry,S.2020) Although fashion fads come and go,

simplicity still exists. This trend is inspired by the philosophy of frugal living
and focusing on the essentials. Minimalist fashion features neutral colors,
natural fabrics, basic shapes, functional designs, and quality over quantity.
Minimalism is a literal interpretation of staying away from anything
extravagant or frivolous. Chances are, the first colors you think of when you
hear the phrase minimalist fashion are black, white, navy, and beige. While
that plays an important role, modern minimalist style also includes vibrant
accent colors that work well when mixed and matched. In the world of
fashion, this means no prints, frills, tassels, ribbons, or bows. This also
applies to men. Peaking in popularity in the 1950s and 1990s, the minimalist
clothing style is thankfully still around. Even so, it took a very long break

 from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. Minimalist fashion is sustainable,
comfortable, and timeless.

Conclusion
In addition, there are many other 21st century fashion trends, such as workwear,
athletics,... Each trend has its own characteristics and is suitable for different people.
21st-century fashion proves that there are no limits to human creativity and
transformation. 21st-century fashion is a language to communicate with the world and
an art to beautify life.
