GAME DESCRIPTION (250 - 300 Words)

The French Food game on Digital Dialects helps learners build a solid foundation in identifying basic food and
drinks in French. The game starts with vocabulary that the player should familiarize themselves with. The
player has access to the translation of primary food groups in French and audio of the word's pronunciation in
French. The game has three sections for the player, including graphics for visual connectivity to the player's
prior knowledge. One section includes a spelling quiz that challenges the player to know the exact placement of
letters within the world. Another section contains flashcards where the player is shown a picture, and they can
flip it to view the term and hear the pronunciation. The third section is the actual game that creatively displays
the graphics of all the vocabulary, and the player must successfully choose the item that matches the audio
description. This game can be tailored to the best learning style for the player. The sections do not have to be
completed in any particular order, and each section can be revisited at any time during the game. There are
resources available for the player to check for accuracy and examples as they learn. The objective is apparent in
this game. The player is expected to build their vocabulary. There is a list of terms that are emphasized
throughout the game and others that can be considered leisure terms. The player is being tested on their
comprehension by showing they can identify and spell the terms when presented randomly. This game is well-
designed and useful for language learners in the beginning stages.

SUMMARY REVIEW & POTENTIAL AS LEARNING TOOL (250 - 300 Words)

This game is an all-inclusive platform for learning basic food and beverage terms in French. Teachers can use
this game to teach students culture, vocabulary, and grammar. The four pillars of education games are present
within this game. The game is easy to navigate. Each section is labeled, and the requirements to progress
through each area are defined. When teachers decide to incorporate this game into their lesson plan, they will
only have to account for a little instructional time spent on how to play the game. The graphics are aesthetically
pleasing to view, and they are comparable to realistic food items. Each section transitions well to the other
because the information is consistent, but the technique changes to ensure the player has variety. The audio is
appropriate for the game because the speaker uses a French accent when reciting terms. It is crucial because if
the words were pronounced in the way that a native English speaker state them, it could be proven to be
incorrect. This game is valuable to beginners because it presents real-world examples of using words that are a
part of everyday life. The player will build upon the exact words they know in English with graphics. This game
would work well for students who learn best by associating their experiences to understand the lesson better.
Once the player learns a new term, there will be opportunities to demonstrate comprehension in another section
and build proficiency. The game gives explicit instruction and additional sites for the teacher and students to
visit to expand the learning experience. The balance within the game is consistent. The goal is to expand
vocabulary and keep the player engaged by challenging their spelling, matching, and pronunciation.
