limit will be marked only up to the maximum word count limit. Any text
that exceeds the maximum word count limit will not be marked. You
must follow the note on word count as stated in the Submission
Requirements section of the brief.
• You must submit a paper copy and a digital copy (on disk or similarly
acceptable medium). Media containing viruses, or media that cannot be run
directly, will result in a fail grade being awarded for this assessment.
• All electronic media will be checked for plagiarism.
Report and presentation – 50 Marks

Task 1
Report

Investigate how ONE (1) company tries to be environmentally friendly. Use the following
questions as a guide to help focus your research:

Why is it important for companies to consider the environment?


What are the best ways for companies to protect the environment?
How does the company use resources?
How does the company try to limit pollution?
Does the company take part in any environmental campaigns?
Is there more that the company could do to be environmentally friendly?

Your report should be 1000 words and include research from a number of different
sources.

Notes

Check the guidelines below when writing your report and planning your presentation.
Marks will be given for all of the below.

Research

• Decide exactly what it is you will investigate.


• Find sources of information directly related to your investigation.
• Evaluate and choose reliable and useful information.
• Include this information in your report in a clear and appropriate way.
• Use graphs, charts etc. to best display data.
• Correctly reference all sources of information
• Include a list of references.

Analysis

• Explain any graphs, charts or data and provide interpretation.


• Discuss your research findings and identify trends and important details.
• Identify possible reasons or explanations for your findings.

Conclusion

• Summarise what you investigated and what you found.


• Draw clear conclusions based on your research and analysis.

Your research, analysis, and conclusions should all directly respond to what you
decided to investigate.

Structure

• Your report should have a clear structure that is logical and easy to follow.
• The reader should be able to identify an introduction and conclusion, and the purpose
of each paragraph.
• Your introduction should state the specific questions that you researched, and the
conclusion should respond to these questions.
• Paragraphs should have a topic and concluding sentences which link well to each
other.
• Statements, definitions, facts etc. should all be supported by appropriate research, and
this should be correctly referenced.
• Your report should be written in an academic style, using appropriate vocabulary and
correct grammar.

Your teacher will tell you the deadline for the submission of your report. You will also need
to submit a copy of your report plan and first draft earlier in the module.

Task 2

Presentation

Give an oral presentation to the class about your report and how you wrote it.
You will need to discuss all the following.

1. The topic of your report – what you chose to investigate.


2. The conclusions of your report
3. The research that supports your conclusions
4. How the research supports your conclusions and how you came to these conclusions

5. The steps you took to research your report.


6. How you conducted research
7. How you evaluated sources
8. Why did you choose your sources?

9. The steps you took to write and edit your report.


10. How you feel about your ability and skills as a writer
11. Your strengths and weaknesses
12. What you would change next time and why

Your presentation should be SIX (6) to EIGHT (8) minutes long.

Submission requirements
Word Count

The word count for this assignment is 1,000 words. Pay careful attention to the mark
allocation for each task so you don’t spend too much time on any ONE (1) section.

You MUST state the word count in the header of your assignment and declare the number
of words on your assignment cover sheet. You MUST confirm that you have not exceeded
the stipulated word limit by more than 10%.

Any words written beyond the stipulated limit will not be read by the examiners; no marks
will be awarded, and no feedback provided for any text beyond the prescribed limit.

In accordance with accepted academic practice, the notion of a word count includes the
following without exception:

• All titles or headings that form part of the actual text. This does not include the fly
(or cover) page or reference list.
• All words that form the actual essay
• All words forming the titles for figures, tables, and boxes. However, this does not
include the text within boxes, tables, or figures themselves.
• All in-text (bracketed) references
• All directly quoted material.
