2. What do you
think is animal
testing?
Why are we presenting on
animal testing?
It is a serious topic, that should be discussed
amongst people, which is still existing.
Experimenting on animals is also unacceptable
because it causes suffering to animals.
Reliance on animal experimentation can impede and
delay discovery, so the benefits to human beings are
also not proven.
What is Animal Testing?
The term “animal testing” refers to procedures performed on living
animals for research into diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new
medicinal products, and testing the human health and environmental safety
of the consumer and industry products (cosmetics, household cleaners etc.)
All procedures, even those classified as “mild,” have the potential to cause
a great deal of suffering. Most animals are killed at the end of an
experiment, but some may be re-used in other experiments.
What types of animals are used?
The most common animal species include mice, fish, rats, rabbits,
guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, dogs, mini-pigs, and
non-human primates e.g. monkeys and chimpanzees.

What does animal
testing look like?
Is animal testing
illegal?
Cosmetics testing has been banned in
42 countries and 10 U.S. states, e.g.
California and Hawaii.
Unfortunately, there is no ban on
testing cosmetics or household
products on animals in the U.S., so
companies that make and sell their
products here can choose to conduct
tests on animals.
Alternatives for animal testing
Scientists are switching to human-relevant research tools to do their research.
The National Research Council in the United States has expressed its vision of “a
future in which all toxicity testing would be conducted in human cells or cell
lines”, and science leaders have echoed this view.
The European Union, Israel, and India have banned the sale of any cosmetics or
cosmetics ingredients that have been tested on animals. These marketing bans
mean that companies around the world will have to abandon animal testing for
cosmetics they want to sell in these huge markets.
