To the Teacher
Fairyland Junior A+B Teacher’s Resource Pack is divided into the following sections:
1 Reinforcement and Extension Activities: These activities are in the form of
projects which pupils can do on their own or in groups. The pupils can then
file their projects in their Junior Language Portfolios.
2 Holiday Activities: These activities are designed for Christmas, Easter and
Carnival holidays and the teachers can use some or all of them before the
corresponding celebrations.
3 Templates: These are for the craftwork activities in the Pupils’ Book.
4 Module Tests: There are six tests in two versions, one for each module, as well
as an end-of-year Exit Test. The Exit Test can also be used as a placement test
for the next level.
5 My Junior Language Portfolio: There are sheets for the pupils’ Language Portfolio.
6 Merit Awards: These awards are designed to give pupils a sense of achievement
and boost their self-esteem and self-confidence.

Pupils make a booklet about colours. They can devote each page to a different
colour, e.g. red: a tomato, a rose, a fire engine, etc. Pupils draw items and colour
them and, if you wish, write the words underneath. Help them with any new words.
Be sure to collect their booklets and display them somewhere in the classroom.

Unit 3: My Flag
Pupils design their own personal flag using pictures, colours and words. They can
include anything about themselves, e.g. name, favourite colour, family members,
hobbies, favourite food, etc. Ask pupils to present their flag to the class.
e.g. This is my flag. It’s yellow. Look! My mum, my dog, etc.
8
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 9
Pupils make a booklet about the people in their lives. Each page should be
devoted to a different person, e.g. a family member, a friend, a teacher, a
policeman, a fireman, a postman, etc. Ask pupils to draw or stick pictures and
write short sentences about each person e.g. This is our postman. His name is
Mr Edwards. Help the pupils with any new words or spelling of names.

Tell pupils to imagine it is their birthday. They are going to have an amazing party
and can invite anyone they like! Pupils make a list of everyone they want to invite to
their party. They can include family, friends and famous people – actors, footballers,
pop stars, etc.
10

Pupils draw or stick a picture of their favourite toy, and write a short description,
e.g. what it is, what colour it is, etc. Provide your own picture and write a short
paragraph on the board for them to use as a model.
11

Pupils draw or stick a picture of their dream room, then write a few sentences
about it: e.g. what colour it is, what there is in the room, etc. Write a short model
paragraph on the board for them to follow.
13
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 14
Write the rhyme on the board. Say it out loud and have the pupils repeat chorally.
Practise this until the pupils can say the rhyme together.
Introduce the spider and the other finger puppets. Demonstrate the actions while
the pupils say the rhyme.
The spider goes on the index finger of the right hand and can be hidden in the
palm when it is in its house. The sun and rain can go on the left hand – e.g.
index and little finger. When the sun appears, the spider runs out, and when the
rain appears, the spider runs back into its house!
Give out photocopies of the finger puppet templates (p.15, one per pupil). Pupils
colour and cut out the finger puppets. Encourage pupils to do the puppet actions
while you say the rhyme out loud. (They can do this in pairs if it is easier). Then, see if
pupils can do the actions while you say the rhyme together.
Tell pupils to keep their finger puppets so you can practise the rhyme and the
actions in other lessons.

Pupils make a booklet about their house. Tell them to devote a page to each
room. They can draw or stick pictures, write a list of things in the room – or
combine both approaches on one page. If they wish, they can stick a picture
of themselves on one of the windows.

In groups, pupils make a Funny Face flip-book. Each pupil draws a face, making
sure the eyes are in the top section, the nose in the middle, and the mouth in the
bottom section. The pages can be stapled together and cut along the dotted
lines. Pupils can then flip through the pages to create funny new faces!

Tell pupils there is a school talent show and they can enter by filling in the form!
Pupils complete the form by entering their personal details and writing about
things they can do. As an extension, host a talent show in class and encourage
pupils to show you and the rest of the class what they can do.

Talk to students about the different senses. Elicit the five main senses and write them
on the board, e.g. seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling.
Say words randomly and try to elicit the most appropriate sense, e.g.:
T: Music
S1: Hearing
T: Apple
S2: Tasting
Usually there will be more than one appropriate sense, so try to encourage some
discussion.
Hand out the Sense it! charts (p. 20, one per pupil). Pupils circle the appropriate
sense/s on each picture. Make sure they understand that for most items they
can circle more than one sense. Then, pupils colour the pictures.
Extension: Put pupils into groups, and tell them to make their own Sense it! poster,
using the model provided. When they have finished, the groups can swap posters
and circle the correct senses.

Unit 9: In My Suitcase
Pupils prepare a weather spinner: they colour the wheel, cut it out and glue it
onto thicker paper or card. Then, they cut out the arrow and attach it to the
centre of the wheel with a butterfly pin. Pupils can use the spinner each day to
talk about the weather.
22
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 23
Pupils design and colour their own animal mask. They can copy from the
flashcards, or the teacher can download templates from the Internet. The mask
can then be pasted onto thicker paper. Cut holes for the eyes, make a small
hole on either side and attach string to tie the mask. Ask pupils to put on their
masks so that the rest of the class can guess which animal they are!
23
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 24
Pupils draw two of their favourite wild animals in the scene (p. 25), then colour it.
As an extension, pupils write about the animals in their picture. They should include:
• the names of the animals
• a brief description
• what the animals can do
• what the animals are doing in the picture
Ask pupils to present their pictures and read their texts to the class. Then, gather
their work together into a class display.
24
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 25
Pupils make a shopping list of their favourite foods in each food group. Use this
as an opportunity to talk about the different food groups (in L1).
26
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 27
Pupils write the name of their favourite dish and draw or stick a picture. Then,
they write a list of ingredients. Tell pupils that they can find ingredients by asking
their parents or looking in cookery books. Help them with any new words.
Provide a model on the board for them to follow.
27
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 28
Play the Tick Tock song (Unit 11) and encourage pupils to sing along. Explain that
they are going to write their own version. Pupils draw their favourite time of day on
the clock. Then, they complete the new verse by writing the time and two things they
usually do at that time. Ask pupils to recite or sing their new verse to the class.
28
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 29
Write the heading World Environment Day on the board and use L1, if necessary,
to elicit some thoughts about what people do and think about on this day.
Start a general discussion about the environment and ask pupils to give you
some ideas about what can be done to help the planet. For example, you could
talk about recycling, saving energy and water, or protecting animals and their
habitats.
Hand out the Environment Day pledges (p. 30, one per pupil). Read through and ask
the class to repeat chorally. Explain any unknown words. Pupils complete the form,
then draw or stick pictures of things they can do to make the world a better place.
Ask individual pupils to present their pictures to the class. Alternatively, ask the pupils,
in groups, to prepare a poster with their pictures. Make sure you display their work
somewhere in class.
Note: You can use this activity as an opportunity to celebrate World Environment
Day on the 5th of June.
29
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 30
Pupils design an animal bookmark. They cut a strip of card, then stick or draw a
picture on it. They can make up their own caption or write a joke or a fact
about the animal of their choice.
31
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 32
Pupils choose an animal and write an animal manifesto. They draw or stick a
picture, then write the reasons the other animals should vote for them.
32
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 33
Pupils select one of the feelings from the box (or any other feeling that comes to
mind), and think of an animal that reminds them of that feeling. What is it about
that animal that reminds you of that feeling? Write a poem about that animal (the
poem doesn’t have to rhyme). There are some prompts to help, should the pupils
need it.
33
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 34
My Book of Feelings
Have the pupils make the cover of their Book of Feelings first. They can write “My Book
of Feelings” or include their name in the title, “(Jack)’s Book of Feelings”. Let them
decorate the cover however they like. Write different feelings on the top of several
sheets of construction paper, e.g. happy, sad, scared, etc. On each sheet have the
pupils draw a picture of what they look like when they are feeling that way. Stack all
the sheets together and punch two holes down the side – top and bottom. Use
ribbon or string to tie the sheets together and make a book.
When all the books are completed, have the pupils tell you about a time they felt
each feeling, e.g. Tell me about a time you felt happy. Tell me about a time you
felt scared.
34
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 35
Pupils make a booklet about a famous person from the past. They devote each
page to an event in the person’s life. Then, they draw or stick pictures.
35
Fairy A_B Reinforcement.qxp_Fairy A_B Reinforcement 10/6/17 10:02 Page 36
Pupils make their own knight. Then ask pupils to write a short profile of the knight,
e.g. his name, what he does, where he guards, etc.
Materials:
• template (p. 37)
• cardboard tube, e.g. from a toilet roll
Directions:
• Photocopy and hand out a template to each of the pupils.
• Colour and cut out the template pieces.
• First, glue the large rectangular piece to cover the tube (the body). The middle
line running vertically goes at the front of the craft.
• Stick on the head, arms, feet and belt.
• Stick the shield on one hand and the sword on the other.

The pupils use the story of the characters meeting Willow, Alvin and Erlina
(Pupil’s Book Unit 16 Lesson 1) to make a story booklet: each page is devoted to
a part of the story: p. 1: Harry, Mona and Emma going for a picnic; p. 2: They
are sitting near a tree (Willow), eating sandwiches; p. 3: It starts to rain, they
shelter under the tree (Willow); p. 4: Willow speaks to them; p. 5: They meet
Alvin and Erlina, too.

Holiday Activities
Merry Christmas!
Ask pupils to write down their favourite Christmas Carol (in L1 or English). Next,
ask them to write down five different numbers between 1-20 (depending on the
group size). Start calling out numbers. Pupils who have the number you call out
take turns and sing the carol that they have written down. Then they circle the
number. When a pupil has circled all five numbers, they win.
Hand out the template showing Santa climbing down the chimney (p. 41, one
per pupil). The pupils colour the picture, then cut it out. Pupils can either put
their pictures on display in the classroom or take them home as an extra
Christmas decoration for their house.
