1. Introduction
Our Australian Made Transformer Oil Treatment Plants
Australian Made Transformer oil treatment plants, manufactured by TFS provide a tried and
tested solution for the dehydration and treatment of insulating oil. In many cases, treatment
with our plants will result in an oil of a higher specification than when originally supplied
as new.

Transformer oil treatment plants are used around the world by major electrical utilities, end
users, service companies and transformer builders.
The TFS Australian Made plants offer high performance, reliability and ease of use.

Treatment with our plants will

 Reduce total water content from 50ppm to less than 5ppm in a single pass, and to less than
3ppm in three passes for Mineral oil.

Please note the moisture levels with Ester oils will be higher (starting point anywhere
from several hundred ppm with drying down to 50 to 30ppm range is deemed very
dry by oil suppliers (please refer to Ester oil manufacturers data sheets).

 Remove virtually all suspended solids greater than 1 micron.

 Reduce dissolved gas content from 10% by volume to less than 0.25% by volume in a
single pass, and to less than 0.1% by volume in three passes.

Our transformer oil treatment plants are available using cost effective and easy to use
disposable high efficiency microglass filter cartridges.

Plants are available in a range of sizes and configurations, with treatment capacities ranges
between 500 to 3,000 (MG3000) and 3,000 to 6,000 (MG6000) litre/hour, as either fixed, or fully
mobile, towable plants.

2. Configuration
2.1 Discussion
Our latest model MG6000E fixed skid mounted unit which can be mounted in a container or
supplied with fitted canopy, and or on a trailer, using disposable Microglass filter cartridges,
having a treatment capacity range between 3,000 to 6,000 litre/hour is offered to meet your
stated requirements, (please note this plant can be run slower & heater banks switched to
half heat if required).
(please also note this plant can be run slower & heater banks will be able to heat to 100C
heat if required and when filtering Ester oils speed may need to be reduced due to the
properties of the oil).

2.2 Description of the MG6000E Transformer Oil Filter Unit

Our new ‘MG’ range of treatment plants will efficiently remove moisture, particulate and
dissolved gases from insulating oil. These plants using high efficiency Microglass filter
cartridges will on a single pass remove 98.7% of particles larger than 1 micron, and a
considerable proportion of those smaller. With the ‘MG’ Plant range, manufactured with
disposable Cartridge filters and Cam Lock Fittings for hose connection and Hydraulic hoses, for
quieter, more efficient and leak free operation. We use engineered hydraulic fittings to achieve
a perfect seal as opposed to old fashioned copper fittings which were designed generally for
water in a stationary position and which commonly vibrate loose constantly causing vacuum
leaks which leads to foaming and other operational issues.
Heated and filtered oil enters the high efficiency vacuum vessel, where a uniform distribution of
very fine droplets allows the vacuum system to dehydrate the oil with maximum effect. Moisture
content is reduced, for mineral oil, from 50ppm to 5ppm, and for Ester oils the moisture levels
will be higher (starting point anywhere from several hundred ppm with drying down to the
30ppm range is deemed very dry by oil suppliers (please refer to Ester oil manufacturers data
sheets), and the gas content from 10% to 0.25% by volume, in a single pass through the oil
treatment plant. The vacuum vessel is fitted with a sight glass to allow visual inspection of the
spray and process. Optical level sensors are positioned in the upper section of the chamber to
sense high and emergency high levels of foam and oil.
Successful treatment of the insulating oil is dependent on the temperature of the oil. The
MG6000E plant has electric heating rated at 100kW to give a 40°C temperature rise across the
heater; this coupled with a heat exchanger for heat recovery results in a total temperature rise
of 50°C across the plant. Control of the temperature is through a controller with the set point
adjustable by the operator at the operating position.

The control and indication equipment is mounted in a cabinet at the rear of the plant, positioned
for ease of operation. Mains power is supplied via an isolator to the heaters, pumps and 110
volt transformer which powers indicator lights and the control circuits.
