Alzheimer's disease is a
type of dementia and the
most common cause of it.
This is also one of the few
neurological disorders
that may occur.
Prevention
Due to the cardiovascular
disease being linked to an
increased risk of
Alzheimer's disease, there
have been various ways of
preventing the risk of
developing conditions. This
includes, Not smoking,
Minimising alcohol use, and
keeping a balanced diet to
name a few.
The effect of Alzheimer's
disease on the nervous
system
As the result of Alzheimer's
disease, neurons are injured and
killed within the brain throughout
the stages of Alzheimer's disease.
Due to neurons being damaged this
may break certain connections and
links between the networks of
neurons, causing regions of the
brain to shrink and in the final
stages, this will cause a serious
loss of brain volume.
Treatment
The treatment used for
the neurological disorder,
'Alzheimer's disease' are
called cholinesterase
inhibitors. This treatment
may help reduce some
symptoms, including
behavioral issues.
