BULLETIN
Solution
To prevent possible cross-contamination
between system oil and fuel systems, fuel
injectors must be checked and upgraded as
described in the following chapters from
WinGD.
Note
This Technical Bulletin is published on

1 Introduction
This Technical Bulletin is published on behalf of our partner WinGD.
This Technical Bulletin informs about possible cross-contamination of fuel and system
oil and describes how to identify and rectify the affected injectors.
We strongly advice to follow the procedure from the WinGD Service Letter!
2 Enclosures

The two open holes were sealed metallically against two raised surfaces of the valve plate, which is part
of the nozzle-body kit with the spare part code “BX 96144” (example for X72). The newer injector body
type, VWO-U10008, does not have these holes and therefore does not require sealing with the raised
sections shown below in Figure 2.
Figure 2: Top view of older valve plate showing two raised sections to seal corresponding holes in the
injector housing
These raised sections were mistakenly removed from the valve plates of the new nozzle-body kits
(delivered since January 2020). The new valve plate can be seen below in Figure 3.

2 Affected engines
As a rule, engines shoptested in 2018 or later will not be affected, but WinGD strongly recommends that
all injectors are checked, including spare injectors, on all vessels.

Also, in cases where older valve plates are being used (see Figure 2), WinGD strongly recommends that
operators plug and label affected injector bodies.
Injector markings are clearly visible without removing the injector from the engine, but a mirror may help
as the markings face toward the exhaust valve cage. Figure 4 below was taken on an installed injector,
clearly showing the newer injector type code.

Each VWO-U10014 repair kit contains enough plugs for a complete engine, including spare injectors.
WinGD strongly recommends marking modified injector bodies with a ‘M’ as shown in Appendix A. This
will simplify future identification.

Note:
The injector nozzle body module must be removed using
the injector test rig as described in WinGD's
maintenance manual and service letter RT-198 (L'Orange
Fuel Injection Valves). The control element/pilot valve
Ø = 3.5 mm Ø = 3.0 mm
can remain in the injector housing.
Note:
a. The rivet gun must not be crooked during the riveting
process. The angle of the plug axis (rivet gun insert)
to the surface of injector housing must be 90 °.
b. Push the rivet gun downwards onto the injector
housing, as shown at left. There is a small protrusion
(nose) on the rivet gun insert, it fits inside the lube oil
bore holes to avoid a protruding plug.
Polished surface of c. If a plug protrudes after riveting and a new type
injector housing injector nozzle body kit is to be used, a maximum
protrusion of 0.2 mm is allowed. If an old type
injector nozzle body kit is to be used, no protrusion is
90 ° allowed.
