TECHNICAL CIRCULAR DOC No.: HHI-TEC-0418

WinGD had announced integrated Cylinder lubricant Auto Transfer(hearinafter called “iCAT) system
which can allow to change immediately the cylinder oils between high BN and low BN oils specified
on basis of sulphur contents in fuels.
For this information, we had issued technical information HHI-TI-0330(2017-11-22) for the
introduction of the iCAT system for X-DF engines and iCAT system has been currently applied for X-
DF engines as standard.
However, according to the IMO requirement for sulphur fuel contents from 1 January 2020, it permits
the use of certain BN40 to BN60 oils which are capable of handling both gas and diesel mode
operation with one grade cylinder oil.
Hence, iCAT system is changed as an optional application from new project including projects under
EOD(Extent Of Delivery) discussion and EOD is also updated in accordance with above policy.
Based on this update, we remove the iCAT system as standard feature from X-DF engines.
It still can be offered as an optional application for customers who prefer to apply the iCAT system.

In case of in service vessels, it also can use one cylinder oil though iCAT system was applied.
For your reference, if operator wants to use one cylinder oil which are able to handle both gas and
diesel mode for the engine with iCAT system, it is available by setting local side manual valve and
by adjusting UNIC parameter to avoid alarm.
In this case, please contact to Hyundai Global Service (E-mail : sales@hyundai-gs.com, Tel : +82-
52-204-7726).

In accordance with this updated technical information, it replaces the previous one HHI-TI-0330.

Technical Information

DOC. NO. : HHI-TI-0330 22th. Nov. 2017 Engine Type : All Hyundai-WinGD X-DF Engine

SUBJECT: Introduction of the iCAT system for WinGD X-DF engines

Winterthur Gas & Diesel(hereinafter called “WinGD”) 2-stroke X-DF engine developed for the
purpose of dual fuel use could be operated not only in specific with sulphur-free gaseous fuel on gas
mode or relatively high sulphur fuel oil on diesel mode, but also fuel sharing mode in which both
fuels are used simultaneously at a specific ratio.

It has been taken into consideration that the use of cylinder oil with different BN depending on
specific fuel used with sulphur contents is most important to prevent cold corrosion and prolong a
lifetime of cylinder liner in combustion area.

For this reason, WinGD has announced integrated Cylinder lubricant Auto Transfer(hereinafter
called “iCAT”) system which can allow to change immediately the BN of cylinder oil between high
BN and low BN oils specified on basis of sulphur contents in fuels, especially in fuel sharing mode to
deliver both cylinder oil together with different BN at any variable fuel oil/gas ratio. iCAT is
automatically controlled by engine’s own control system provides operation mode corresponding
respective fuel oil specification based on input from remote control system.

The iCAT system is comprised of the following major components,

- Two(2) different cylinder oil pipes in Rail unit with different BN level.
- Pilot valves at each cylinder
- 3/2-way solenoid valve at each cylinder prior to cylinder oil pump.
The following table as threshold for automatic cylinder oil selection shows when the system triggers
the switches in rail unit depending on operation mode or fuel oil ratio in sharing mode.

Fuel mode High Sulphur Low Sulphur

Diesel mode High BN Lube oil Low BN Lube oil
Gas mode Low BN Lube oil Low BN Lube oil
Fuel sharing Ratio < 10% Low BN Lube oil Low BN Lube oil
Fuel sharing Ratio >= 10% High BN Lube oil Low BN Lube oil
For details of iCAT introduced as standard for X-DF engine, please find a presentation in next page
issued by WinGD.

The iCAT system will be standard scope for new contract of all WinGD X-DF engines from now on.

We hope this information will do you a valuable service.
