1. Get 3 different sizes of Jar covers. Name it A, B, and C. Use a ruler to find
the diameter and a string to find the circumference of each coin to the
nearest millimetre.
Remember:
Circumference is the distance around a circle. The ratio if the
circumference of a circle to its diameter is about 3.14. The ratios of the
C to D of a circle is about the same.
Self-Test (Lesson – 1)
I. Use other circular objects. Check if what you found in the previous activity
holds true.
II. State the relationship between the circumference and the diameter of a circle
based on the information you recorded in the table above.
You have learned that the distance around a circle is called circumference ( c )
and the parts of it are the radius, diameter and arc.
In this lesson you will learn to measure the circumference of a circle using
apropriate tools.
WHEN YOU ARE DONE, SHOW YOUR WORK TO YOUR I.S. TO CHECK.

Now, we are going to study how to find the circumference of a circle when
the diameter is given.
Remember:
π = 3.14
d = 2 cm. d = 2 cm
C = 3.14 x 2
C = 6.28 cm
Given:
π = 3.14
d = 10 m
Solution:
C=πxd
C = 3.14 x 10m
C = 31. 40 m
Remember:
Given:

π = 3.14
d = 4 cm
Use the formula:
C = πxd
C = 3.14 x 4
C = 12.56 cm
Self-Test (Lesson – 4)
USING THE FORMULA, C = π x D, FIND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE
CIRCLE WITH THE FOLLOWING DIAMETERS:
a. d = 3 meters
b. d = 5 cm
c. d = 6 cm
d. d = 2cm
e. e = 7 cm
f. d = 10 cm
g. d = 16 cm
h. d = 8 cm
i. d = 5 cm
j. d = 25 cm

LESSON 5 Learning Competency 80
You have learned to find the circumference of a circle in the lesson before
this. Now, you will learn to solve problem involving circumference.
Given: 60 cm – radius
3. 14 cm – pi ( π )
Step 2. Write what is asked in the problem.
Question asked: What is the circumference?
C=πxd Where:
Or C = circumference
C=πx(2xr) π = pi = 3.14
C = 3.14 x ( 2 x 60 ) r = radius
C = 3.14 x ( 2 x 60 ) cm
= 3.14 x 120 cm
= 376.80 cm.

ARE READY FOR THE GROUP DISCUSSION.
Step 4. Formula:
C=πxd
Step 5. Solution:
C=πxd
= 3.14 x 24 cm
= 75.36 cm
Here’s a problem for you to solve. Follow the steps. Use your answer sheet.
Step 4. Formula:

3. Jane bought balloons for her birthday party. She got 2 dozens of assorted
balloons. After the party she gave the balloons to her friends. There were
three balloons left. She measured the diameters of the balloons that were
left.
5. Find the circumference and radius of the rubber ball with a diameter of 25
cm.

Summary:
In this module, you learned the different parts of a circle, the diameter, radius
and the arc. You have also learned to measure circumference of a circle and
derives a formula in finding the circumference of a circle.
Example: To find the circumference, multiply the diameter with π
If d = 10 m
c =πxd
c = 3.14 x 10 m
= 31.40 m
You have learned, too to find the circumference of a circle.
Example. What is the circumference of a circle with a radius 2 cm?
What is the diameter?
C=2xπxr
C = 2 x 3.14 x 2 cm
= 12.56 cm
Since the radius of a circle is half of its diameter, then the diameter is
twice the radius. So, the diameter is 2 x 2 = 4 diameter.
You learned to solve routine and non-routine problems involving
circumference of a circle.
Ex. Find the circumference of two fishponds whose radius and
diameter is 7m and 10 m.
