“How Arthur became king of England”
An extract from “The death of Arthur”by Sir Thomas Malory, 1485.
Many years ago, King Uther and his wife had a baby who was to become King after his father
died. Merlin, the magician, convinced King Uther to give him the child to safekeeping. So, when
Arthur was born merlin took him out of the castle and asked Lord Ector and his wife to keep him
in their family and his identity a secret. Two years later, when the
King Uther was eating, he suddenly fell over and died. Merlin did
not reveal Arthur’s identity because the Lords were always fighting
each other for control of the land and Arthur life was in danger.
Arthur was safe with Lord Ector’s family and he was learning many
things that would later help lead his Kingdom.

1. Once upon a time, in a village there lived a beautiful girl named Cinderella with her
wicked stepmother and two step sisters.
2. She worked hard all day. One day, they all went to the ball in the palace, leaving
Cinderella behind. Cinderella was feeling sad.
3. Suddenly, there was a burst of light and the fairy godmother appeared.
4. With a flick of the magic she turned Cinderella into a beautiful princess with glass
slippers and a horse carriage appeared at the door. The fairy godmother warned
Cinderella to return before midnight.
5. Cinderella arrived at the ball, the prince saw her and fell in love with her.They
danced together all night.
6. As the clock struck twelve, Cinderella rushed out to her carriage leaving one of her
slippers behind.
7. The prince went to every house in the town with the slipper until he found
Cinderella.
8. The prince and Cinderella lived happily ever after.
