The Iraq Petroleum Ministry has awarded an Exploration, Development and Production
Service Contract (EDPSC) to a consortium led by Kuwait Energy, subsidiary of United
Energy Group Limited, ("COMPANY") as the Operator of the field, for the development of
the Block-9 Field.
The Block-9 Field is situated in the southern part of Iraq, in the Basra Governorate,
approximately 50 km North of Basra City, and extends north and east to the International
border with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The field is approximately 36km long and 24km
wide, covering an area of approximately 865 km2.
A map of the area showing the Block-9 Field is as given in Figure 1.1-1.

b) Threaded and socket welded piping shall not be used in sour service; such piping shall
be butt-welded and flanged.
11.2.1 Fitting & Flanges
The steel fittings and flanges used in sour service shall comply with the requirements of
related project fitting & flange material specification in sour service, such as BNS Fittings,
ASTM A234 WPB (NACE), A105N (NACE), ASTM A403 WP316L (NACE), ASTM A815
S31803 (NACE), ASTM A182 F316L (NACE) & F51 (NACE), Alloy 825/Alloy 825 clad
(NACE), etc.
11.2.2 Bolting
ASTM A193 Grade B7M bolting materials and ASTM A194 Grade 2HM nuts material
shall be mating with carbon steel/CRA components. ASTM A320 Grade L7M bolting
material and ASTM A194 Grade 7M or 7ML nuts material shall be mating with low
temperature components (-73°C ≤ MDMT < -29°C). All bolting materials for used in sour
service shall comply with the requirement of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
11.3 HIC and SSC test shall be done for CS/LTCS valves and piping materials used in
sour service, and HIC test is not mandatory requirement for cast valves, except other
specified by COMPANY.
11.4 For all carbon steel, low temperature carbon steel and low alloy steel welded in
sour service, the post weld heat treated (PWHT) is not mandatory requirement; However,
all weld joints shall carry out hardness test and the hardness value shall follow project
specification and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 requirement, whichever is more stricter, if
not, PWHT shall be done.
