Our members’ experience in various technical fields including

animation, VFX, communication, and web design means that we
strive to create unique and interesting creative projects.
Project
Create a 15-minute-long drone show made of 12
individual formations and 300 drones

The client will identify an overarching narrative

and designated formations they wish to see.

Designed formations need to be original,

innovative, and breathtaking

Deliverable:
12 Individual Drone Formation C4D Files
3 Brick Drone C4D Files
Client

Hobbes from Detroit, MI

Hobbes is a team of animators and

problem solvers focused on furthering
Motion as a design discipline and applying
its principles to digital products and
emerging technologies.

Works with Google and Firefly Drone

Client Work:
AIR Animations will be working with a well-established motion graphics company to create a
Drone show. This project will allow us to gain valuable experience working within the industry.

How Project
Problem Solving:
and Will be working to solve the most efficient transition between formations, stay within time
restraints, and create interesting formations while staying within physical constraints.

Group Goals
Align Multi-Medium Storytelling:
The drone show will allow for the exploration of 2D to 3D design with a unique way of
communicating a story through lights and movement.

Technical Constraints:
Limited resources and constraints, such as speed limit, drone counts, and battery time, cause
adjustments to designs to be made.

Team is made of creative and passionate Purdue students that want to
create original and breathtaking art.

Innovative:
Team strives to add something to the drone industry and create
Team Strengths something that hasn’t been explored before.

Quick Learners:
Team is made of college students that have been trained to learn new
softwares and techniques effectively.

3D Modeling:
All team members have a background in 3D modeling and program.
Getting a Client:
Client will request a theme for a show, settle a budget, claim a flight area, and establish drone
count.

Storyboarding:
How a Drone Artist will create 2D drawings of formations in Adobe Illustrator, interactions will be made on
client critique.

Show is made.
Animating:
Splines from Adobe Illustrator will be imported into Cinema 4D or a 3D mesh will be modeled.
Drones will be attached to the surfaces and then animated, checked for collisions and colored.

Delivery & Flight:

C4D files will be exported and information will be imported into the drones.
How will we solve the problem?

- Research:
- Will research what is happening in the drone world.
- What is innovative?
- What hasn’t been done?
- Learn:
- Team will learn proper techniques to make drone formations and more.
- Learn the ins and outs of the drone/mixed media industry.
- Execute:
- Create an innovative and breathtaking drone show.
