Assessment 3:
Essay: Answers should be written or printed on a separate sheet with your
name, course, and the year written on the top portion of your answer
sheet.

1. Advantages:
• load and play promptly when embedded to webpages
• length can be changed without affecting the pitch of the music
or degrading audio quality
• much smaller than digitized audio
• do not take up as much as RAM, disk space, and CPU resources
• can carry up to sixteen channels of information, each of which
can be routed to a separate device
Disadvantages:
• higher cost and requires skill to edit
• cannot emulate voice or other effects

2. Analogue is the name for an electronic signal that carries information of


sound as continuous fluctuating voltage value. It has an unlimited
bandwidth which means it can be moved to higher resolutions without
compromising audio quality. Example of this is audio tape recordings.
Whereas, digital is the representation of analogue sound, transformed
through digitization, and stored in the form of sample points.

3. MIDI is a file format for representing electronic music created with a


MIDI device (such as a synthesizer or electronic keyboard). This format
contains instructions for playing music, but unlike digital audio, it does
not record the waveform itself.

4. FLAC, it offers lossless compression, and it’s free and open source.

5. It is the entirety of the different sounds produced by the computer


system or other similar devices be it ringtones, music, or notification
sounds, which are being emanated through speakers or headphones.
