1. RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES

An earthquake is a weak to violently shaking of the ground produced by sudden
movement of rock material below the earth’s surface. It strikes suddenly, violently and
without warning. Identifying potential hazards ahead of time and planning in advance may
help reduce the dangers of serious injury or loss of life from it.

But why is it earthquake drill important?

An earthquake drill is one set of simulated emergency circumstances designed to test the
ability of the school members to make the most appropriate decisions to ensure their safety. The
school members especially learners should understand the emergency response plan sufficiently in
order to react appropriately during the drill.

If the learners will be able to transfer the knowledge to the members of their families, it
becomes general knowledge and the community can prepare as well.

ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

NARRATIVE REPORT on 2023 Mandatory Unannounced Earthquake Drill

The Mandatory Unannounced Earthquake Drill pointed out that Philippines is prone to
natural disasters and earthquakes because it is located within the seismically active pacific “Ring of
Fire”. Hence, this pose serious risks and threats to the safety and security of the students, teachers, and
other school personnel.
Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 10121 entitled The Philippine Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Act of 2OlO, which promotes the development of capacities in disaster
management at the individual, organizational, and institutional levels; aligned with the Department's
commitment of ensuring the safety and well-being of its learners and school personnel, VILLAFLOR
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is hereby required and committed to conduct unannounced earthquake
drill.
Prior the said date of the activity, Mr. Leovin A. Acupan, school’s DRRM Coordinator, led
the said activity on the January 23, 2023 at 9 o’clock in the morning. It was participated by teachers,
administrative staffs and learners as well. Mr. Acupan also reminded everyone of the things to be
considered before, during and after the drill. Ms. Maybelene A. Garlejo, School Principal, also
reminded everyone to participate considering the safety measures and health protocol to be followed.
Each one of the teacher advisers of each classes discussed the importance of having an
effective preparedness plan is the key in preventing disasters and saving
lives. Accordingly, local drills and simulation exercises are preventive measures that familiarizes
escape routes and reinforce proper actions in the occurrence of a calamity. Frequent practice of these
drills and exercises would eventually turn these actions into automatic reflexes that would manifest
during an actual calamity.
Amidst the scourging heat of the sun that morning, everyone participated including the
youngest among all learners up to the administrative staffs because they believe that the key to
reducing loss of life, personal injuries, and damage from natural disaster such as earthquake is
widespread public awareness and education. In general, the implementation of the program was a
very successful one participated by a total of 872 participants including learners, faculty staffs and
administrative staffs of the school.
