2024 CITYWIDE MATH WIZARD CONTESTS

Junior High School


Public and Private

Guidelines and Mechanics

1. The contestants from each participating school shall take the


elimination round at the Parañaque City College on February 2, 2024,
Friday, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM. The elimination round will be a written test.

2. Contestants should come in uniform with proper school ID

3. Students will register inside the testing room assigned to them.

4. Contestants in the testing room will come from the same grade level. Only
1 student from each grade level (Grades 7-10) will take the written
test.

5. Contestants will NOT be allowed to bring cellphone, ipad, camera,


calculator, laptop, computer, and other gadgets inside the testing room.

6. The proctor will distribute scratch papers where the contestants


will solve the problems.

7. Before distributing the test papers, the proctor will instruct the contestants
to write only their name and school on the test paper. No one will begin
answering the test unless the proctor gives the GO signal to do so.

8. Only the final answer will be written on the test paper. All solutions on
scratch papers will be submitted to the proctors together with the test paper

11. Proctor will give a 15-minute, and 5-minute warning before the time is up.

12. The proctor will collate test papers and scratch before turnover to the
person in-charge of assigning the checkers.

13. Answer keys shall be opened just before the correction begins. Each
correct answer will merit one point.
14. The average scores of the three (4) contestants by grade level (G7+G8 +G9 +
G10) in both private and public will be ranked. Schools Ranked 1 to 10
will proceed to the Final Round.

FINAL ROUND

15. The Final Round will be an oral team competition to be held on February
7, 2024, Wednesday, 8:00 AM - 9:20 AM at Ayala Malls Manila Bay

14. A team of four (4) contestants will be provided with slips of paper for their
answers. Each team will write their team number for identification.

15. There will be 20 questions: 10 (fifteen-second) questions worth 2 points


each, 5 (thirty second) questions worth 3 points each and a 5-minute
question worth 5 points each for a total of 60 points.

a. A 15-second question will be solved mentally. There will be no


writing anywhere, neither on paper, table, etc. The team of four (4)
will work as a group, assign a team leader who will announce the
group’s answer. They can start discussing their solution after each
question has been read

b. For the 30-second question, scratch paper will be provided for


each team contestant. Contestants will begin solving within the
given time

c. For 1-minute question, a copy of the question will be provided for


each team. Scratch paper will be provided.

d. NO additional questions will be asked after the 20 official


questions provided for this competition.

16. The quizmaster will read each question twice, after which he/she gives the
GO signal. The time starts when the quizmaster gives the GO signal. The
questions shall be read exactly as formulated. Rephrasing of the questions
is not allowed.

Each answer will be written on the official answer slips provided. As soon
as the buzzer rings everybody stops writing.

17. Proctors will collect the answer slips and give them to the judges who will
sort them into: those with correct answers and those with wrong answers.

18. One of the judges will announce the team with the correct answer. A
Scorer will record the points obtained by each team for each correct
answer on a scoreboard.

19. Answers must be expressed complete units required for


accuracy. However, if the unit is already given in the question it need not
be given in the answer.
20. The teams will be ranked according to the total score in the three parts to
determine the winners.

21. In case of a TIE from among the teams vying for the first three places, a
set of 3 clincher questions will be given to break the tie, one for each
category. If the tie is not broken after the clincher, a “do or die” question
will follow.

COMPLAINTS OR CLARIFICATIONS

22. Only the official contestants may raise a complaint or clarification.

23. Complaints on a question should be made before the next question is


asked. This should be directed to the Chairman of the Board of Judges.

MANPOWER REQUIREMENT

24. The competition requires the following support staff: 3 Judges, 1


Quizmaster, 2 Scorers ( 1 on the board/project on screen and 1
manual scoring using the score sheet, 1 timer, 1 proctor for every 5
teams

25. Each team of 4 will be seated in such a way that they can discuss their
answers.

BOARD OF JUDGES
26. There will be a panel of three judges composed of persons competent in
the field of Mathematics.

27. Before the competition officially starts, the board of judges shall review
and resolve issues and problems regarding the test questions and their
respective answers.

28. The board of judges will be responsible in settling the complaints and
address the clarifications on a given question during competition.
All decisions of the board of judges shall be final and absolute.
